This tree was originally started from a cutting and has been trained in the semi-cascade style. The current front of the tree could certainly become the back with a change in planting angle. It has a nice, well rounded nebari and good taper at the base. The cut paste you see at the base is covering a sacrifice branch that was growing from that location.
The basic branch structure is set and ready for further refinement. It was transplanted into its current container this past spring using a mixture of akadama, pumice and charcoal. Botanical name: ulmus parvifolia ’seiju. Common name: seiju chinese elm.
