This bougainvillea will make a great. Informal upright style bonsai tree. It is well established and has excellent branch placement and structure.
All it needs is time to develop ramification and an artistic touch to give the branches beautiful movement. The nebari is nice and radial and will mature well with time.

Bougainvillea leaves reduce readily and because the colored part of the flower is actually a modified leaf known as a bract the nodes between the flowers can be reduced with training. Bougainvillea can take total defoliation or a 80% root pruning with no problem given temperatures are nice and hot.
Finally, the trick to get bougainvillea to bloom the best is to keep it dry – they will not flower in wet soil!
