This is a i japanese white pine or five needle pine that is grafted on to a black pine base that i have had in my collection for over a year. This is a very rare tree and is sought after by bonsai collectors for its needle size, and soft needles unlike the ridged needles of the black pine. The needles are also much shorter than that of the black pine at about an inch which makes them very desirable for for bonsai, they also a great lighter color green than that of the back pine adding to it chatter.. It is in a brown plastic training pot that is 10×8″ and 3.75″ in depth, it has been repotted 1 time since i have owned it. It has under gone decandleing , wiring and trimming to give it its excelent refinement it has now. The tree is 12 tall from the soil line and 9 inches wide, it has a very nice massive truck that is 2.75 inches in diameter, at the soil line including the twisted up gnarly roots see photos, up 2 inches from the soil line on the trunk the trunk is 2.5 inches wide. I have also created just a great jin on it as can be seen in the photos. This is an a spectacular black pine white pine graft, in that the tree has tapper to it, usually the trees are a bitt skinnier at the base and wider in the middle, but not this one it is widest at the bast and tappers to the smallest at the tip like it should, great tree..
The tree shows excelent taper to it and awesome branch structure. It is without a doubt a show tree. It has given me immense pleasure to work on this fine specimen and can only hope that the new own can enjoy the tree in the way that i have.
When ever i have had the enjoyment of working on this tree it has taken me back to when i was a child and i used to have picnic’s with my grand parents by the muclume river under a giant ponderosa pine that looked so much like this little guy and i remember the good times i had with my grandparents under that tree. Hopefully the new owner will get the same kind of nostalgia from this tree…..
