Kotobuki’ is a true dwarf strain of jbp that was discovered in japan. It is a fastigiate branched narrow upright with short dark green needles. I’ve included a photo of my 24 year old 16′ stock plant to illustrate the growth habit. For bonsai creation, ‘kotobuki’ works well for any size bonsai. The needles dwarf done to an attractive 1 in length for young trees or even smaller for old-timers. The branching and young buds are a bit brittle so extra care is needed when shaping with wire. It’s been wired completely once and then restyled and branch-wired recently. It stands 17 tall. 16″ wide and 15″ in depth. The trunk base measures 2 above the bulbous lower trunk mass.
