Many of the trees I sell are still a work in progress, but this Old Boxwood is a finished tree that is now show ready. In fact, the last time the tree was shown (About 3 years ago) here in California (Descanso Bonsai Society Show) it took second place. The tree represents some of the best material I have to offer. I have enjoyed watching this tree grow and mature into the fine bonsai specimen that you see today. Most of the masterpiece bonsai trees that I eventually sell were started by the original first generation Japanese American bonsai masters that I have studied under here in the west coast. This tree in particular, has been worked several times, over the past years by experience bonsai masters to bring to fruition. By nature, Informal upright trees give an impression of endurance and with the grandeur of the boxwood, the trees size and composition adds to an already impressive bonsai. There is a vestige of struggle and survival in this tree that the viewer can admire for hours. The resilient ability of the boxwood is one of the many reasons why I love this plant, but as previously mentioned it has taken many years for this tree to get to its present size and shape. Because of the slow growth rate in the trunk, branch, and foliage area this tree has been designed and redesigned numerous times throughout its life. On that note, I find that the branch structure of this tree works well with this mature bonsai. Along with the thick branches, the massive trunk adds a realistic harmony to this venerable giant. Complementing the impressive trunk as well as the entire composition is an oval Japanese ceramic bonsai pot.
