The small leaves and dwarf habit of this variety produce great character and proportion. Ilex Schillings are also very cold and drought hardy while withstanding serious root and top pruning making them great for bonsai cultivation. The dwarf variety typical is kept as a small hedge but with age can grow to over 10′. At one point in history, Ilex Vomitoria was a very popular tea; not to mention the weeping variety has more caffeine than coffee.
