The tree was recently cleaned and shaped to help create a better silhouette and a softer branch pattern. We usually do not defoliate our deciduous trees until July so a full defoliation of this tree has yet to be done. We only do a full defoliation if the tree is healthy and vibrant. Defoliation helps create fine branching in a short amount of time. It also redirects the energy within the branch pattern to improve the structure of the tree and as an added bonus the new foliage that appears is smaller and brighter in color. In addition, if you are a very busy person or live in place so arid that you must keep our maples trees on life support, than the Liquidambar is the tree for you. They produce reliable fall color without anything other than basic care. In short this bonsai tree is an easy to care for deciduous tree that is blessed with that coveted thick trunk that many desire and it will also give you a reliable show of fall color each year without a lot of effort. Complementing the Powerful stature as well as the entire composition is a very fine Tokoname Ichiyu unglazed ceramic bonsai pot (13×3.5). This round Japanese pot represents some of the finest work that the Ichiyu Kiln has produced. On a side note. Ive noticed that not too many sellers talk or write about things that should be done after you receive your tree so I will give you my two cents worth. When you receive your tree unpack it carefully. Cut the tape and plastic wrap from the pot and the branches if applicable. Secondly give the tree a good watering and then put the tree in a partially shaded spot for a few days to allow it to adjust.
