BONSAI TREE OLD PROSTRATA JUNIPER with 3.5 TRUNK. Height: The height of the tree from the soil line to the top of the apex is 20. Trunk Diameter: The trunk Dia, is approximately 3.5 inches. Most of the bonsai trees that I sell and have a great potential are trees that were started by the original first generation Japanese American bonsai masters that Ive studied under here in the west coast. This tree in particular has been worked on several times over the past years by experienced bonsai masters to bring it were it is now. This Prostrata juniper (Juniperus Chinensis) was not collected, but has lived its entire life as bonsai. The tree was first styled about thirty years ago, but only the shaping of the sinuous trunk and development of the primary branches was done. When I first saw the tree, about twelve years ago, I knew that it had great potential and so did my friend and Bonsai Artist Mauro Stemberger of Italy who did the second styling of the canopy. The first initial styling was done by another friend and bonsai artist by the name of Mel Ikeda who lives here in Southern California. One of the most important factors in creating a high quality bonsai is that you must first start with a tree that has great potential. Secondly, the person that is designing the tree must know what they are doing, because Masterpiece bonsai trees do not happen by accident. The proportions on this Prostrata juniper are very attractive; in fact, I would say that they are ideal! Nevertheless, when Mauro first saw the tree he knew that the height as well as the canopy needed desperate work. The first thing that Mauro did was remove the existing canopy that also helped shorten the height of the tree by over a foot. After removing the canopy, Mauro decided to covert an existing old branch into the new apex via the use of a makeshift leverage bar (stick) and guy wire. Although this bonsai is still a work in progress, the trees structure which is the most important part is now in place and it shows in the trees pleasing disposition. To complete the tree all that is needed is the continued development of the secondary and tertiary branches. Adding to the synergy of the powerful trunk as well as the entire composition is an old rectangular Japanese ceramic Bonsai pot that is also big (16.5x 12x 5). Thank you and have a great day! On a side note. Ive noticed that not too many sellers talk or write about things that should be done after you receive your tree so I will give you my two cents worth. When you receive your tree unpack it carefully. Cut the tape and plastic wrap from the pot and the branches if applicable. Secondly give the tree a good watering and then put the tree in a partially shaded spot for a few days to allow it to adjust. After several days of adjustment your new bonsai can be reintroduced to bright sun. Good luck and if you have any questions feel free to fire off a message.
