These are 4-5 years old and still dormant. They are 8-10 inches tall with trunks that range from just under 3/4 to 1 inch thick. A nice group with Shohin-style potential. The temperature is going to be in the 60’s much of the week here and bare-root season looks like it will be short this year. I have so many trident maples. Moving trees when they are dormant is much less stressful than when they are in full-leaf. Plus, it is very easy to see the branch structure. These trees that I offer are raw bonsai material that I have kept small with annual branch and root pruning. I don’t claim to be a bonsai master by any stretch. What I do is grow tree species that are suitable for bonsai. I trim the roots severely each year to develop a fibrous root mass and train them for permanent life in a bonsai pot. I start most of them at a low price and let the buyers decide what they are worth. Trees are like fingerprints, no two are alike. These have spent most of their life growing in the ground. Plant the trees back in the ground, a training pot or finished pot on arrival. If you are going for training, use a 2-3 gallon pot. Trident maple is a deciduous species that must be grown outdoors. They are hardy from zones 5-8 and very fast-growing. Some of mine have grown 3-5 feet in one season and they grow well into the fall. The trident is one of the most popular trees for bonsai. They usually develop a thick trunk with a wide base at the soil line and exposed surface roots. The 3-lobed leaves are glossy and reduce well. Just “Google” the trident maple and you will see many fine examples. I will send a care sheet with the tree. The trees will be sent as shown, with most of the soil removed.
