It is a lot of tree. I have been trained by Bonsai (ha) for decades and have had them all. This Elm has been one of my most prized trees. The true test of good bonsai is not just a fine nebari and huge trunk. It simply must look like a full grown tree. It has low slung branches of proper positioning and proportion. It is wider than tall and layered so to “let birds fly through”. It looks like a tree worth climbing or taking a nap below it. Any small wounds add to it’s character and growth is symmetric and even throughout. This is because the root structure is even all around and growing together to create a solid 5 flare in the near future. The pic with red lava soil showing the major root directions is from 4 years ago. I tried my best but pictures will never show how great this tree is in person. It is as beautiful in full leaf or leafless. It is as large as I would like to keep and move around as it barely fits through a doorway. This Elm needs nothing but to clip new growth to your desired outline shape. If you are a more casual hobbyist and wish something smaller and less expensive, please see my other items.
