BONSAI TREE SHOHIN JAPANESE RED MAPLE with 2 TRUNK in FINE BLUE POT. We realize that the winter chill is still affecting many parts of the U. Shohin` Class (Palm size). Height: Tree height from the soil line to the top of the apex is 6. Canopy: The widest part of the trees branch spread is 6 wide. Trunk: The trunk Dia, is approximately 2 inches. Nebari: The exposed roots measure 3 across. Although many use the Japanese Red Maple as a landscape tree, creating an old Shohin size Maple for Bonsai is the highest artistic level one can reach for this beautiful tree. Along with its powerful trunk, this maple also shows a beautiful red small leaf in the spring time as well as a great fall color. It is hard to tell when this tree is at its finest. Many enjoy displaying these trees during the winter shows when the tree is leafless and bare, but I believe that the tree is most splendid in spring when covered with the deep red leaves that appear to be on fire. Adding to the beautiful foliage is the milky white masculine looking surface of the main trunk, which combined with the foliage and the dramatic exposed roots, adds to the grace and the total effect of this composition. Notwithstanding the fact that the beauty of the tree is breathtaking when covered with new foliage, the tree can still be impressive standing bare in the cold of winter. While training a Shohin Maple bonsai tree may be a bit more challenging than working on a Juniper, it by no means requires a sophisticated green thumb. The one tip I will share is to never water the foliage during the summer season as this will cause the tips to burn. Complementing this beautiful composition is an equally strong Japanese ceramic container with a beautiful glazed blue color. The tree has been growing in the rectangular bonsai pot for two years now.
