Photo of tree in leaf taken 5/18/22. Ulmus parvifolia Chinese elm pre- bonsai. Wire styled with Chinese Penjin influence. This tree was started from a single root cuttings, 7 years ago. It now stands 10 1/2 tall with an angulating trunk and branches. This tree has a sensual form and is just now at a clip and grow stage. It is just showing spring buds. Its leaves will be almost completely unfurled within a week and will continue to expand throughout the season. As with all bonsai the training never ends and this tree has a few training wired in place. It is container grown and is ready to pot as bonsai or can continue to be grown as pre-bonsai. I have tended this tree from its beginnings, as a root cutting from its parent tree. Ever few years I produce a few of these trees and this one shows to have excellent potential. It shows great vigor. This tree has been wired at several stages during its development to achieve this styling and has several training wires in place. The naturally small leaves make Chinese Elm an ideal Candidate for bonsai. This tree shows well and is uniquely special.
