INCREDIBLE BASE AND TAPER!!! On This Sumo Style Trident Maple Pre Bonsai. Container grown its entire life with an emphasis on taper. Allowed to grow freely and cut back many many times to induce such a wide base and root spread. Trident maples are prolific growers and can heal over large wounds in a matter of a few grow seasons. All the wounds on this trunk have rolling cambium surrounding them and are on there way to closing and giving this fat little trident that bumpy, muscular look. It has been moved into a colander this spring to give it more room and vigor. The Akadama heavy mix will help the root system family and grow fine feeder roots to aid in the building of this tree. The leader had been left long and should still be grown out to make the transition of the first few inches from the trunk more in-line with the trunk. This tree has was first collected in the 80’s as a large yard tree. The same owner had the tree up until early 2019 when they were being overwhelmed by the size of their collection and I was able to help them offload a few trees. This crape is exhibiting beautiful fluting and the whole trunk is totally hollow, clear signs of its age.
