Vintage Japanese Bonsai or Bonkei ornaments, 45 items in many materials. (miniature landscapes) There are dwellings, shrines, a shop, pagodas, bridges, boats, water carriers, farmers, workmen, cranes, poultry, geese, wise old men, bags of “boulders” and trees! Theyre made out of blown glass, painted lead, ceramic, stoneware, wire and porcelain! Some are repaired, some are missing paint, some are complete but in a few pieces, some are pristine, some need repair or refurbishment. Feast your eyes on the many pictures, I think I have a closeup (or 2) of everything, and a group picture with a ruler for sizing. Please note: The painted lead, 4-legged lanai with frond roof is missing a leg, having a flexible clay substitute of some kind. The ceramic shop with sign on front has two pieces that have broken off that I will keep together when packaging. The lead stilt home with open shoji screen has an awning covering the shoji screen door that will be packed with the dwelling. The old man in red and blue had his hand broken off that I reglued. I believe I was given these by my sisters godmother, decades ago, who spent much of her childhood in the 30s as a member of a missionary family serving in China, Indonesia and Japan. Most of these come from this era or earlier. Many of these are marked JAPAN and come in varying scales. Two are “mudmen” stoneware pieces from the’70s. If youve seen the current miniatures on sale under this heading, you will appreciate even more the subtle, detailed nature of the real thing. There are ones not shown from the set that I have used on my bonsai, but the scale is all wrong with these listed – for all but the tiniest of miniature trees. Their value today would be as elements of Bonkei, or miniature landscape, using moss, small stones, miniature lakes and such, installed on a plate or slate slab, interesting rock or large dish, or many small dishes. Or you could just create your own perfect little village. The item “Vintage miniature bonsai ornaments,’20s-’70s. 45 items, astonishingly detailed” is in sale since Sunday, June 16, 2019.
