The Ginkgo, or maidenhair tree, is a living fossil that’s flourished around the world since the Jurassic Period – over 200 million years ago. The Ginkgo Biloba is the hottest trend in both health foods and bonsai. It’s regarded in eastern cultures as the “Fountain of Youth” plant for the belief that it boosts brain circulation and memory when taken as an herb. This tree is easily distinguished by the characteristic two-lobed, fan-shaped leaves which turn a deep yellow in autumn. Its fruits are arranged in clusters, and are golden yellow when ripe. Dwarf Shohin Ginkgo Biloba Bonsai Tree Japanese 42 years old ginko. It is one of my very favorite trees, the fall colors are just amazing, ranging from dark yellow to light yellow with an orangish time, I have many maples of all varieties , but have to say the fall coloring on this little gem, blows them away. It is in a stamped Japanese tokoname pot that is 8.5×5.5 inches by 2.5 inches tall. As can be seen by the photos this is a very finely glazed pot, supper nice. The tree is 12 inches tall from the soil line, and is 9 inches wide. It has a 4 inch base at the soil line with great movement. It has been wired, pinched back, trimmed, fertilized and repotted at the appropriate times and is very healthy. This was my fathers tree and it was one of his pride and joys. I have had it for 7 years and it has brought my much happiness over that time. I had hopped to pass it along to my daughter someday. Specimen Ginkgo Biloba Chi ChiBonsai Ginkgoaceae. This tree is about 45 years old. It stands about 16″-17″ tall from the soil with a 5″-6″ trunk and 8 base. It comes in a 11″x9″x3.75 bonsai pot (I’m not sure of the pot origin). What you see is what you get. This tree is dormant in its Winter phase, with no leaves, but new foliage will grow in the Spring. Ginkgo produce beautiful green leaves that turn a stunning canary yellow during Fall. The Chi Chi variety is rare and is much sought after for the bulging growths on lower trunk. Native to china, the ginkgo biloba tree (of the ginkgoaceae family) is distinguished by its wide, leathery, fan-shaped leaves and sturdy trunk. The name is derived from the japanese word ginkyo, meaning silver apricot. Ginkgos are known for their remarkable longevity; some trees growing in china are over 2500 years old.

In the united states, they grow in hardiness zones 3 to 9. Unfortunately, these trees are also notorious for the horrid smell–similar to vomit or rotten eggs–produced by seeds that fall and rot. From a distance, though, ginkgo trees are beautiful. Remove the pulp from the seeds by washing in water.

Spread out the clean seeds on paper towels to dry. Prepare a potting mixture of equal parts compost, soil, peat moss and sand.

Plant the seeds in growing trays filled with the potting mixture. Cover with 1/4 inch of the mixture, keep them evenly moist and place in a warm and humid spot until they germinate. Transplant them to a permanent location when growth is 3 to 4 inches tall. Available, 10 or more than 10 items in one order will be.
