Mature Thirty Year Old Grafted Japanese Maple (Shindeshojo) Bonsai Plant

This 30 year old mature healthy dwarf grafted Japanese Maple (Shindeshojo) measures 18 inches tall with a 12 x 12 inch crown. It has a 2 inch trunk just above the root crown and a root crown of 6 inches. Please note: THIS TREE DOES NOT COME WITH THE POT. The word bonsai simply means a tree or shrub grown in a pot that is prevented from reaching it’s full size by pruning, shaping with wire, etc. To a desired shape. Many people have a perception of what they believe to be a “Bonsai”. What looks like a bonsai is simply subjective (up to the person viewing the plant). A bonsai is actually never finished because they continue to grow. When the plant reaches the point that it is a bonsai is up to the one viewing it. I consider all of the plants I sell as “bonsai” are in the category from beginning (starter plants) to mature and everything in between. Please note that the color of the leaves of Japanese Maples vary from season to season and because of environmental conditions sunlight, etc. The colors from spring to summer and fall may change considerably. The colors of the leaves may look different than the photos when you receive them because of these changes. I suggest that you search the internet for the specifics of the varieties I sell so there won’t be any surprises for you. Please use the photos as your guide to what you will receive. !!!!! BONSAI TREE OLD GRAFTED KISHU SHIMPAKU JUNIPER with 3 Trunk. We realize that the winter chill is still affecting many parts of the U. Height: The height of the tree from the soil line to the top of the apex is 20. Trunk Diameter: The trunk Dia, is approximately 3 inches. Nebari (Root Spread): Tree shows many exposed Roots 5. Most of the trees that I sell are still a work in progress, but this Grafted Kishu Shimpaku juniper is a completed tree that is also show ready. It has never been shown anywhere else until today. The tree represents some of the best material I have to offer. I have enjoyed watching this tree grow and mature into the fine bonsai specimen that you see today. Most of the masterpiece bonsai trees that I eventually sell were started by the original first generation Japanese American bonsai masters that Ive studied under here in the west coast. This tree in particular has been worked on several times over the past years by an experience bonsai master to bring to fruition. This tree was collected, but has lived a big part of its life as bonsai. The tree was first styled about forty years ago, but only the shaping of the sinuous trunk and development of the primary branches was done. When I first saw the tree, about twelve years ago, I knew that it had great potential but needed to be grafted. Before the tree was grafted and transformed with Kishu Shimpaku foliage the tree was an old San Jose Juniper. The actual graft work was started about ten years so the graft is very well established. The grafting method that. Was used on this tree was the Whip graft method. Graft is where a younger shimpaku cutting (Whip) is grafted onto an existing older trees branch by mating both respective scions together. If done correctly the graft will leave no visible signs of a graft ever taking place. The reason many graft the beautiful Shimpaku foliage onto San Jose Junipers is due to the notorious slow growth of the Shimpaku. The wonderful thing about this tree is that you do not have to suffer through the slow growing process, which is the only downfall of owning a Kishu Shimpaku juniper. The Kishu Shimpaku, which the Japanese have recognized as one of the best trees for bonsai, has an amazing emerald green condensed scale foliage that is a pleasure to work with. The dramatic Deadwood as well as the entire composition is a fine rectangular Yixing ceramic bonsai pot (13.5×10x5). Received or we can hold the tree for as long as you wish. BONSAI TREE GRAFTED KISHU SHIMPAKU with THICK 3.5 TRUNK in TOKONAME POT. We realize that the winter chill is still affecting many parts of the U. Height: The height of the tree from the base to the tip of the apex is 22. Trunk Diameter: The trunk Dia with deadwood, is approximately 3.5. Nebari (Root Spread): Tree has many exposed Roots 5. Canopy: Widest part is 19 inches across. This beautiful and rustic Kishu Shimpaku juniper first started out as a Prostrata Juniper before being transformed into the beautiful bonsai tree you see today. I believe what makes this tree special and striking is the dramatic deadwood of the short thick trunk as well as the Kishu Shimpaku graft that was added by a local bonsai artist and friend who is quickly becoming one of the best grafters in the Bonsai community. Many consider the Kishu Shimpaku juniper to be one of the friendliest trees to work with because of its soft condensed scale foliage that is very evident in this bonsai. The rustic nature of the Prostrata Juniper and the delicate, dense green foliage of the Kishu shimpaku create a bonsai that expresses the true meaning of the word synergy. The tree was originally designed by Mauro Stemberger of Italy, but the canopy and foliage pads have been recently cleaned and wired by this writer and should fill in quite nicely. Nevertheless, the trunk is the part of the tree that is the most impressive, one of the reasons is due in part to the sinuous thick trunk and deadwood that is rarely found in a tree this size. Overall, the composition of this Juniper conveys a tree that has lived its entire life in a windy prairie which is evident by its wide full scale branches and its dramatic beauty. The dramatic Deadwood as well as the entire composition is an old Japanese rectangular Tokoname ceramic bonsai pot with soft edges (13x 10x 3.5). Bonsai Tree by Artist Mauro Stemberger Grafted Kishu Shimpaku Juniper in Japanese pot. We realize that the winter chill has already reached many parts of the U. Height: The height of the tree from the soil line to the top of the apex is 20. Trunk Diameter: The trunk Dia with deadwood, is approximately 2. Nebari (Root Spread): Tree shows many exposed Roots 6. As the title states, this tree was created by my friend and Bonsai artist Mauro Stemberger who graciously allowed me to use his name in the sale of this tree. He sense of serenity and the feeling of harmony that Mauro can bring out in these old, but small trees, it is very difficult to not love the art of bonsai. Mauro was born in Italy where he discovered the beautiful art of Bonsai at the young age of 14 years old and with his incredible vision has become one of the top bonsai artists outside of Japan. He has appeared at The Noelanders, Ginko Award, and Bonsai Focus magazine numerous times. This powerful small giant is a San Jose Juniper that has been grafted with Kishu Shimpaku foliage. The rustic nature of the San Jose Juniper and the delicate, dense green foliage of the kishu shimpaku create a bonsai that expresses the true meaning of the word synergy. Considering the fact that the tree stands only twenty inches tall, the character that the trunk as well as the tree show is a very dramatic one. In a few weeks the canopy should fill in quite nicely as the tree was recently cleaned and shaped by Mauro Stemberger. In my opinion, this bonsai will be show ready this Spring and will be at the top of its class. To help preserve the deadwood and increase the contrast between the live and dead portions of the trunk a bit more lime sulfur was added, which explains the yellowish color of the Jin as well as the Shari. The deadwood has since taken on a bone white color. The pot that Mauro chose to use for this beautiful tree is equally pleasing. It is an oval Japanese ceramic bonsai pot (12.5×10x4) that compliments the tree nicely. Height: Tree height from the soil line to the top of the apex is 23. Canopy: The canopy is well proportioned and measures 18 wide. Trunk Diameter: The trunk Dia. Is approximately 2.5 inches. Nebari (Root Spread): Root spread is visible throughout base 9.5. Age: The tree is approx 30 years old. I found this beautiful specimen several years ago abandoned in an old. Nursery in Santa Paula, California. The nursery, which was known as The Twisted Tree nursery is no longer in business, but the old owner allowed me to dig the tree out of the ground before shutting his doors. After collecting the tree I allowed it to recover its strength for about four years before doing any drastic work to its branches. One aspect of the tree that definitely needed to be corrected were the very long branches that grew away from the trunk, so I decided to have my Sensei graft the tree with foliage that would be closer to the trunk. Bonsai Tree Collected California Juniper grafted with Itoigawa in Rare Container

Bonsai Tree Collected California Juniper grafted with Itoigawa in Fine Ceramic Pot. Yamadori Collected in the Mountains! This tree is Not a Tanuki, but a 100% real California juniper grafted with Itoigawa! Trunk Diameter: The trunk Dia. Is approximately 3.5 just above base. Height: Tree height from the soil line to the top of the apex is 18. Canopy: The canopy is well proportioned and measures 15 wide. Throughout the years of collecting trees, I have found that there are basically three types of Junipers one can collect- little young trees, big old trees and small, but old trees. The little old trees are the rarest and the hardest to find for bonsai. The reason the California juniper is so coveted is partly due to the spectacular deadwood that the tree can show. However, another aspect of a wild California Juniper that is difficult to find is a tree with perfect branching. One of the major problems with finding a small tree with perfect branching is that they are very rare and those that do exist are quickly collected. In the case of this tree, you see a small bonsai that has a nice developing canopy, but is much smaller than most trees at this stage. In my opinion, that makes this tree even more valuable than a bigger tree would be. This beautiful specimen was collected many years ago by a master bonsai artist in an area known as. Sand Canyon in the Tehachapi Mountains. After being collected the tree was allowed to recuperate before going through some drastic changes. The primary change that occurred was a decision to graft with Itoigawa foliage. Initially, the artist planned on keeping the trees original foliage, but after further consideration decided that it would be better suited with Itoigawa Shimpaku foliage. California juniper foliage looks fine on native stock, but can appear heavy and somewhat coarse for smaller size trees. For that reason it was decided to graft Itoigawa Shimpaku foliage onto the old and rustic California Juniper. The transformation was definitely worth the Itoigawa graft. The actual graft work was started over six years ago so the graft is very well established. The grafting technique that was used was a method known as an Approach graft. Approach grafting, is a technique where a new branch or section of a tree is added using a portion of another tree while still attached to the donor plant (during the grafting process). Eventually the only sign that a graft took place is the distinct difference between the California juniper and the Shimpaku bark, which can be seen in the photographs. Complementing the dramatic stature of the trunks deadwood as well as the entire composition is a round custom made ceramic bonsai pot (11×4). The artist who was commissioned to create this beautiful container was asked to make a bonsai pot that would complement the rustic appearance of the old trees deadwood. BONSAI TREE GRAFTED KISHU SHIMPAKU with CURVY 2.5 TRUNK. Height: The height of the tree from the base to the tip of the apex is 18. Trunk Diameter: The trunk Dia with deadwood, is approximately 2.5. Nebari (Root Spread): Tree has many exposed Roots 6. Canopy: Widest part is 15 inches across. This bonsai that started out as a San Jose Juniper, but I believe what makes this tree special and striking is the dramatic curvy trunk as well as the kishu shimpaku graft that was added by Roy Nagatoshi of Fuji Bonsai. The rustic nature of the San Jose Juniper and the delicate, dense green foliage of the kishu shimpaku create a bonsai that expresses the true meaning of the word synergy. The canopy and foliage have been recently cleaned and will fill in nicely, but the trunk is the part of the tree that is the most impressive. The reason is due in part to the sinuous trunk and deadwood that is rarely found in a tree this small. Any consider the Kishu Shimpaku juniper to be one of the friendliest trees to work with because of its soft condensed scale foliage that is very evident in this bonsai. The tree was repotted last year so it is well established and will not need repotting for at least another two years. Overall, the composition of this Juniper conveys a tree that has lived its entire life on a windy cliff by an ocean bluff which is evident by its dramatic beauty. Because of the numerous possibilities for a front we chose to use a round bonsai traing pot (not clay). May be slightly higher. On a side note.
