Is a dwarf variety of Chinese Elm that was specifically raised as a bonsai plant by John Catlin of La Canada, California (circa 1950). The leaves are very small and will remain that way throughout the trees life. It is a highly sought-after tree (cultivar) that is not known to have been introduced anywhere else except the U. Along with the Olive it is an ideal starter tree for beginners because it is easy to care for and resilient. It is also a perfect choice for the experienced bonsai artist because of the trees ability to challenge you in the design flow. Because the Catlin Elm can adapt quite easily too many different environments as well as resist many diseases makes this tree an outstanding choice for all bonsai collectors. For a tree that is only 17 inches tall, this small giant shows a lot of seasoned character within the branches that only time can provide. Along with the outstanding curvy trunk the tree is also blessed with all the right ingredients to make it into a future masterpiece. Has been in training for over 10 years, but recently cleaned and rewired. The olive tree is surely the richest gift of Heaven. By nature, twin trunk trees give an impression of serenity and with the timeless history of the Olive, this composition adds to an already impressive bonsai. The Olive tree has always been regarded as a symbol of life and peace. The tree is believed to live beyond 2000 years. The Olives from the Garden of Gethsemane are actually still alive today. There is a majestic beauty in this tree that the viewer can admire for hours. A genuine Twin Trunk (Soju style) requires that both trees come from the same root ball as these two trees do. By nature, twin-trunks give an impression of serenity and with the natural elegance of the Chinese Elm, the trees composition adds to an already peaceful bonsai. There is tranquility in this tree that the viewer can admire for hours. The resilient ability of the elm is one of the many reasons why I love this plant. Because of the growth rate in the branch and foliage area, the tree is very forgiving with mistakes. I also find that their branch structure lends itself particularly well to twin trunk style, and their small leaves make them look quite realistic. At the same time, the foliage responds well to pruning and styling, giving the ability to give each trunk its own individual canopy that complements that of its partner. Although elms are beautiful on their own, shaping the tree into a twin-trunk (Mother/daughter) makes it appear more majestic. The excellent development of the primary and secondary branches along with the developing ramification and growth of the foliage is a strong indicator of a very good root system. The aggressive growth of this tree also guarantees that the tree will always have a full canopy unless it is cut back to encourage a smaller foliage. Complementing the impressive trunk as well as the entire composition is a fine oval unglazed ceramic bonsai pot (14×11x4). The origins of the fine ceramic container are unknown, but based on the workmanship and clay color it is believed to be production Tokoname.
