Mame, hand size Japanese musk maple bonsai. Commonly known as a Japanese Musk Maple, Japanese Neem Tree. (Premna microphylla) has leaves that are very reminiscent of a Japanese maple. Prized for its wonderful roots and overall quick response to training. Its a fast grower and is deciduous like maples. Its leaves turn a brilliant yellow in fall, then fade to white, just before falling. It, as its name suggests has a strong musky smell, when its leaves and stems are touched or rubbed. This tree is is just 5 3/4 tall. The tree was grown from a cutting, taken 3 years ago. It has been totally wired to archive this shape. Root manipulation has also being applied during its training. Its potted in a high fired, unglazed Chinese Pot, measuring 41.2 in diameter at the top and is 2 3/8 tall. This Neem Tree, was wire trained, as it naturally grows very straight and is a fast grower. I have tended this tree from its beginnings, as a cutting from its parent tree. As with all Bonsai, the training never stops, this tree has had its training wires removed and is a simple clip and grow, from here, unless of course you wish to restyle.
