RICHARD BELL-SMITH, signed- Quartz Amethyst Bronze Copper Bonsai Tree Garden

The delicate nature studies by noted sculptors Richard Bell Smith and Blanca Borja de Smith are sure to strike a responsive chord among those who feel a special affinity for woodland, field, and stream. With unfailing mastery, this husband and wife team capture the dynamic spontaneity, rhythm, and textures of natural growth. Here the transcendental experience of being at one with nature is preserved in bronze and copper for your lasting enjoyment and contemplation. Hundreds of amethyst gems line the bonsai canopy. Measurements: 7 1/2″ tall, base is 6 1/2″ and length at canopy 10. Richard Bell Smith went directly from school back to the studio where his artistic sensibilities found their expression in a new medium- welded sculpture. He finds that working directly with molten metal is an ideal way to capture the flow of organic forms. His sculptures tend toward the interpretive and subjective end of the impressionist/photographic realist spectrum. For example, he strives to capture and communicate the essence of a tree as he experiences it rather than to merely reproduce a photographic copy of the original. The result is a tree sculpture that unmistakably evokes aspeni, while a close scrutiny reveals that the leaves are not a literal copy of aspen leaves. Art imitates life, Richard agrees, but artistic expression must first pass through the interpretive filter of the artist. Art is an act of creation and communication. If too much is filtered out, the resulting work of art is obscure, and is relevant only to the artist and a small group of those who share his vision or art entrepreneurs, who market his product as avante guarde to investors and pseudo-sophisticates! An artist-communicator gains a following to the degree that his art resonates with the sensibilities of the viewer, and Bell’s retinue of collectors and admirers is vast. Bell has contributed many important innovations in technique and materials to his medium, elevating it to the point where he is able to express the finest nuance of color, texture, and form. He eschews any means of reproduction in his work. Each piece is an original welded sculpture, fashioned only with an oxyacetylene torch, a pair of pliers- and his boundless imagination. Now in his golden years, Bell is renowned for his unrivaled skill with the welding torch. He has won numerous awards and competitions, exhibited in countless shows, and his sculptures are found in many of the world’s finest collections. With the acquisition of a sculpture by Richard Bell Smith or Blanca Borja de Smith, you may be assured that you own an art treasure of ever-increasing value and enduring beauty. Each piece is individually hand wrought and signed by the artist, and each is a one-of-a-kind original- unique in all the world. Your complete satisfaction is VERY important to us. BONSAI SOIL PREMIUM THRIVE MIX BLEND 15 QUARTZ 3.75 GALLONS

BONSAI SOIL PREMIUM THRIVE MIX BLEND 15 QUARTZ 3.75 GALLONS

BONSAI SOIL PREMIUM THRIVE MIX BLEND 15 QUARTZ 3.75 GALLONS

Soil is made up of haydite, river rock, orchid bark and charcoal. Our soil holds water and nutrients for the roots. It is free draining and sufficient for the passage of roots, water, and air. This soil has been sifted to remove particles finer than 1/16 of an inch. The haydite hold 30% water and helps in the promotion of fine roots. Compacted soil will not contain enough air spaces to maintain healthy roots. If the soil becomes compacted the helpful bacteria will die off and promote root rot. River rock is superior to other materials often used in bonsai soil because the rock is rounded off by water and even after the soil has settled it won’t fit tightly together aiding in the prevention of compacted soil. See a power point presentation on our website about our soil. Why is bonsai den’s soil better than others? Haydite holds up to 30% water. Other soil mixes have too good of drainage that can potentially dry the roots out between watering and feeding. River rock has been rounded off by water. This round shape makes the soil not fit together well leaving air pockets. These air pockets are good for the roots and help against the soil compacting.

Orchid bark lasts longer and has a more pleasing natural look, much better than pine bark. When the roots come in contact with these sharp edges it causes the roots to split into finer feeder roots which are more beneficial to the tree. Healthy roots, healthy and vibrant tree.

Here is what people are saying about bonsai den’s soil. This is an excellent all purpose bonsai soil. I can use it for my tropicals, conifers, junipers, … This is a great soil for a really good price, it can’t be beat.

The orchid bark is very appealing and this combination mix gives good water drainage. I’ve noticed a difference in my trees health and growth.

I’ve experimented with other soils and have found these flaws. Peat and fine pine bark can cause the soil to clog, in some other applications these ingredients are good but for bonsai we want to avoid them.

Most other bonsai soils are not truly soil-less. Bonsai dens’ soil mix has superior drainage and water retention components creating a perfect environment for root growth. 30% pine bark 70% fired clay.

The pine bark must have been the invisible kind. Didn’t get what i paid for. Good drainage but not eye pleasing. Other soils have a good combination mix with good drainage but they aren’t eye appealing in the bonsai pot.

Master mix, haydite, lava rock and pine bark. The soil looked good and drained well. The price was $50 for 5 gallons, way too much. Some soils are very overpriced and don’t use top level ingredients.

Bonsai den uses top quality, superior ingredients in their mix and offers it at a price that is below other inferior soil mixes. So with bonsai dens’ soil you are getting a superior quality soil for less. Information about our soil ingredients.

Fairmount minerals offers the high purity sub-round grain shape. This product is offered in a range between 20 afs/gfn and 130 afs/gfn. 99.9% sio2 purity for high refractoriness. State-of-the-art blending ensures a consistent grade of silica. The sub-round grain shape reduces soil compaction. This round shape does not fit together well like other products. This leaves small spaces for air, water, and root growth. You can fit more triangles and squares into a box than you can circles. This round silica sand helps reduce soil compaction and poor root growth. The most promising lightweight aggregate.

The special qualities of haydite enhances soil mixes for horticulture applications. Its properties help provide the free flow of air and water to root systems of plants and shrubs while significantly reducing soil compaction. The micro porous internal structure of haydite also helps to maintain optimum moisture levels for vigorous healthy plants.

Haydite aggregates absorb excess water during rain or watering, and then slowly release this excess water as the soil dries. This same concept works equally well in gardening and nurseries. The process of kiln heating and then vitrifying haydite aggregates renders the haydite sterile and environmentally inert.

It is a natural, non-toxic, highly absorptive ceramic granule with a generally neutral ph. It is dimensionally stable and will not degrade or compress like other products. Haydite does not need to be re-applied year after year.
A specialized gradation of haydite soil conditioner specifically designed for the demands of commercial greenhouse cultivation. Greenhouse blend consist primarily of 1/4″-1/16″ particles sizes with nearly all dust and the very fine particles removed. Interior porous structure resist clogging and provides superior aeration that promotes growth of delicate, fine root systems. Problems of soil compaction are significantly reduced when haydite is properly proportioned within the soil. The soil remains resilient because moisture and air movement are not restricted. Haydite provides the optimum condition for fast, healthy plant growth. Haydite reduces compaction that leads to a shallow root zone and poor water infiltration. Haydite has a porous structure and strong particle integrity. When incorporated into the soil, haydite provides needed porosity and air space to the root zone. Haydite absorbs water and nutrients allowing for less run off. Water and nutrients are held by each particle and are slowly released back into the soil and root zone, as needed, promoting healthier root growth. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have.
