Japanese Red Pine Tree Seeding For Bonsai

Japanese Red Pine Tree Seeding For Bonsai

Up for your consideration are 3-4 year old japanese red pine (pinus densiflora) that i grew from seed and are well established in 2 1/2 inch nursery pots. The above picture is an example of what you would get. Some may be taller, shorter, fatter or thinner, but all will fall in the parameters listed. Some will have branches, some may not. These are a whole year older and the price has not changed.

They are thicker and stronger than before, no price hike. Please look at the picture closely; there will be last years (or the year before) needles along the bottom portion of the trunk that are dead. This is how they naturally grow. You can easily pick them off.

I would do it, but with thousands of potted seedlings and over 100,000 bare root seedlings, i just don’t have the time to totally clean them up. Also, the 2nd picture is of the dormant bud that the tree set in the fall, this bud is for next spring. Don’t pluck, cut, or mess with it. In the last picture you can see a burgundy color needle. This is common with japanese red pine when fall comes.

It’s one reason (and the color of the dormant bud) how they got their name. So if you get one this shade, its totally healthy and happy.

In the spring the needles will turn back to green. I sell them yearly bare-root starting in november. These will be 7-12 inches tall and be very similar to the one shown above. They will be gone before spring no doubt.
