Stout Shohin Trident Maple Bonsai – Acer Buergeranum. This tree is probably about 14-15 years old now. The tree stands only 7.5″ tall from the soil with 2″ trunk and 3.5 base. This tree was started from seed by Frank Kroeker, grown out over the years and cut back and styled as a shohin. Frank got out of the business and I acquired the tree. The last photo shows the tree today, January 30, before I cut it back to a basic trunk line. Once it grows for a season, and backbuds and grows shoots, it should be shortened again removing the “Y” apex to establish a finished trunk line with better taper.
