San Jose juniper bonsai stock. Height – 10 inch. Canopy width – 8 inch. Diameter – 1 inch. Flare at soil level – 1 1/2 inch. Features – This is a nice field grown San Jose juniper. The San Jose juniper is one of my favorite junipers. The have a unique flaky bark as the tree ages. The tree does not grow upright, however they can be trained to grow in any direction. They are very conducive to jins and sharis to increase the appearance of age. This tree had many branches that were not where I wanted them. I cut them all off and wired the branches that were left. Now we wait for the tree to fill in. In a few years the tree can be placed into a nice pot. San jose Bonsai Stock(9sj725st). Height 7 1/2 inch. Canopy width 6 1/2 inch. Diameter 1 1/4 inch measured just below lowest jinned branch. Flare at soil level – 1 1/2 inch. Features – This is a nice field grown San Jose juniper. This tree has many jins(dead branches), incorporated into the design to give the tree the appearance of greater age. This tree is pushing growth and will fill in nicely. This tree could also be used to make a nice shohin size bonsai. A shohin size tree is a tree that is 20 centimeters or approximately 8 inches in height. Height – 11 inch. Canopy width – 10 inch. Diameter – 3/4 inch. Flare at soil level – 1 inch. Features – This is a nice field grown Prostrata bonsai stock. The prostrata used to be a very popular bonsai material. It has lost favor because it is not a rapid grower and very few people grow the tree. I started this from a cutting many years ago and placed the tree into the field after it was rooted. It was pruned back several times in the field to develop the shape and taper. I used this tree in a demo a few months back and recently rewired the tree. This tree has a classic S curve in the trunk line. It has many nice branches that are filling in nicely. The prostrata looks very similar to the San Jose juniper. It has a slightly bluer tone and produces many more juniper berries.
