KIKU Jinshari Bonsai Knife – Jin Shari Yamadori Bark Deadwood Carving Tool. The KIKU Jinshari Knife The KIKU Jinshari Knife is the first of it’s kind. One of the first members of the KIKU Elite series, this knife was specifically designed to work on bonsai and perform tasks unique to bonsai. The Jinshari was created to fill the need for a specialized jin and shari tool. The name Jinshari is derived from the knife’s primary use which is creating shari’s and jin’s on bonsai. Each material was carefully chosen and tested to meet the demand of enthusiastic bonsai practitioners. DC53 Japanese Stainless Steel Construction – The blade and tang are constructed from 1/8 Japanese DC53 tool steel. The blade was vacuum heat treated to a hardness of 61-63 HRC. DC53 steel is well regarded for it’s wear resistance and durability while still providing a ultra-sharp edge. Multiple Cutting Edges – The Jinshari’ features a very sharp tip with small 1/2″ straight blade, a 1 1/8″ concave edge and a 3/4 convex edge. The combination of edges makes the Jinshari a versatile tool for all deadwood cleaning, jin, shari and most other bonsai deadwood work. Carbonized Acacia Wood Handle – The carbonized acacia wood handle’s density is 62 pounds per cubic foot. This places the handle’s wood between oak (45 lbs/cubic foot) and marble (80lbs/cubic foot) so it is very, very hard. The dark wood also has great visual appeal. Hidden 3/4 Tang – The hidden tang fills nearly the entire handle making it structurally sound for even the most demanding uses. The tang has a series of unique rectangle notches that were precision cut to assist the epoxy in preventing the tang from slipping the handle. BONSAI PINUS THUNBERGII CORTICOSA YAMADORI >200 YEARS OLD (65 YEARS as Bonsai). Pinus thunbergii (syn: Pinus thunbergiana), also called black pine, Japanese black pine, and Japanese pine, is a pine native to coastal areas of Japan (Kysh, Shikoku and Honsh) and South Korea. Black pines can reach the height of 40 m, but rarely achieves this size outside its natural range. The needles are in fascicles of two with a white sheath at the base, 712 cm long; female cones are 47 cm in length, scaled, with small points on the tips of the scales, taking two years to mature. Male cones are 12 cm long borne in clumps of 12-20 on the tips of the spring growth. Bark is gray on young trees and small branches, changing to black and plated on larger branches and the trunk; becoming quite thick on older trunks. It was brought back from Japan over 55 years ago by my father. It was his pride and joy and would show it every year in the american bonsai club here in sacramento ca. He won several awards over the years ranging from best show in mame shohin class to members choice. It is one of the best shown mame trident japanese maple over rock I have ever seen, it truly takes my breath away every time i see it. I have owned it for 13 years and have enjoyed working on it and viewing it. As can be seen the structure is amazing , achieve from decades of wiring, pinching and trimming. Bonsai Huckleberry Native Blueberry Species Rare Yamadori fruits flowers 53yrs. It is in a stamped tokaname lt turquoise pot that is 7×5 inches by 2.2 inches tall. The tree is 6 inches talll from the soil line and 5.5 inches wide. It has a massive trunk that is 2 3/8 of an inch wide. It puts on small white flowers in April and they turn into fruit. It is just amazing when it flowers, some years it has been so covered with flowers you could hardly see the foliage. Then on top of that the flowers turn to small black berries which are edible. People make jam from the berries. Huckleberry’s are in the blueberry family, extremely slow growing and a rarity to be able to collect one. My brother collected this tree over 15 years ago and is one of the nicest shohin yamadori (collected tree) flowering and fruiting I have seen. I have owned it 6 years and it has just thrived. It has been trimmed, pinched back, fertilized and repotted at all the appropriate times.
