The japanese red bloodgood red maple was introduced into the us before world war 2, and is cultivated named after the bloodgood nursery in long island new york, where it was developed. The bloodgood is commonly planted as an ornamental tree for it’s graceful and peaceful appearance. It’s beautiful wine red foliage keep’s it attractive throughout the whole growing season and is a favorite among bonsai enthusiasts.
A very strong growing tree growing 2 to 3 feet a year, reaching 15 to 20 foot tall with a spreading pattern that make’s for one of the most beautiful canopies. Very easy to grow, with very few problems, and doesn’t require large amounts of nutrients. The most distinctive feature is the wine red leaves in the spring, fading to a reddish green throughout the summer, and returning to the gorgeous reds in the fall. Full sun to partial shade.
