Trident maple bonsai – this would make a great shohin!!! If you have been looking for a fat trunk trident that you can work for your bonsai bench, look no further, this is it! Awesome bonsai material doesn’t come around that often. When it does, you have to grab it… Well, i have moved further south, and simply have to part with some of my bonsai. Sad to say, but maples do not grow where i just moved. I was keeping this one for myself. Ok, now the important stuff. Great small 3 lobed green leaves on this one. Yep, it’s a little fatty….. Check out the pics. Did i mention that my plans for this one was to make a killer shohin?? Root spread (nebari) is huge at 12+ ariwhen i uncovered it two years ago, i noticed it had a great nebari spread…. Except on one side. I grafted roots on that side and they are growing and melding in just fine. They will be big and fat like the rest in no time. Tall from the soil line. Should be cut back at later date to further progress as the great shohin it will soon be. There is a wound on the back of the tree that was sealed two years ago when it was reduced in height. I made the cut deeper to encourage the callous to roll over, which it is doing nicely. I always envisioned a hollow trunk. Hmm, maybe a great carving opportunity for the new owner. Tree is very healthy with tons of roots and buds. It is dormant, so it will make the trip to your house without even knowing it. Plant in a grow out box when it arrives and keep the roots from freezing and you are set! Don’t miss out on this awesome tree. Once it is gone, it’s gone.
