Also know as Prunus mume, or Ume, Japanese Flowering Apricot are posed to be the next must have tree in the West after being a mainstay popular tree for Bonsai in the East for thousands of years, I guess were starting to catch on- haha, Ume are awesome trees for Bonsai because they develop oak-like bark at a relatively young age, display wonderful scented flowers in the middle to late winter, and have attractive ovate foliage, This tree was grown in a pot for a couple years after being started as a seedling were it stayed in shallow soil to develop a shallow root spread, then it was field grown for an additional 4 years to develop the beginnings of a decent trunk. This one is 4-1/2 ” in (circumference) and is 17″ tall with a canopy width of 9 Will make for a nice Patio tree or Specimen bonsai with a little training and patience..
