BONSAI TREE COLLECTED POMEGRANATE with 7 TRUNK. More photographs will be added soon! We realize that the winter chill has already reached many parts of the U. Height: The height of the tree from the soil line to the top of the apex is 30. Trunk Diameter: The trunk Dia, is approximately 7 inches above base. Base (Root Spread): Tree shows a good solid base 9. Those that know me also know that along with bonsai I also have a passion for collecting trees from the wild (Yamadori). Living here in Southern California and only minutes away from where old California Junipers grow wild is indeed a blessing and a unique place to live and feed that passion of mine. Nevertheless, I have found that not all masterpiece material is confined to the Mojave Desert or the. Some trees like this old Pomegranate can actually be found growing in rural areas if one looks and works hard enough to find them. In this case, this Pomegranate was found growing in an old Ranch in the Southern California community of Santa Clarita. The tree was collected about twelve years ago and after being collected it was allowed to recuperate and grow out for a few years. The process for styling the main branches on this tree has taken some time because it basically had to be started all over again from the very young branches nearest the massive trunk and base. The tree was then styled and re-worked several times over to bring it to its present shape. The only thing that is needed to complete the tree is to allow the canopy to fill out and acquire that beautiful round shape, which it now beginning to show. Along with the dramatic deadwood and a big fat trunk, t. He tree also flowers many times each year and then fruits. Because we have been developing the canopy we have made it a point to remove the Pomegranates to insure that most of the energy goes to the secondary and tertiary branches. Nevertheless, its small leaves and bright red flowers truly make this a special bonsai tree. Although it is not common as bonsai it is very popular and is easy to care for. Adding to the synergy of the powerful trunk as well as the entire composition is an old round ceramic Tokoname bonsai pot (15×5.5). Although most of the Japanese pottery bears an incision or chop-mark made by the artist or craftsman, a few makers do not mark the item thereby making the pot itself their signature. Other than the #11 chop-mark on the bottom of the pot, the piece itself is a “non-kamajirushi” which means non-marked. I must also mention that the pot does have an old repair on the lip of the pot that was fixed and then highlighted with gold leaf paint to show the area that was repaired. On a side note. Ive noticed that not too many sellers talk or write about things that should be done after you receive your tree so I will give you my two cents worth. When you receive your tree unpack it carefully. Cut the tape and plastic wrap from the pot and the branches if applicable. Secondly give the tree a good watering and then put the tree in a partially shaded spot for a few days to allow it to adjust. After several days of adjustment your new bonsai can be reintroduced to bright sun. Good luck and if you have any questions feel free to fire off a message.
