INCREDIBLE BASE AND TAPER!!! On This Sumo Style Trident Maple Pre Bonsai. Container grown its entire life with an emphasis on taper. Allowed to grow freely and cut back many many times to induce such a wide base and root spread. Trident maples are prolific growers and can heal over large wounds in a matter of a few grow seasons. All the wounds on this trunk have rolling cambium surrounding them and are on there way to closing and giving this fat little trident that bumpy, muscular look. It has been moved into a colander this spring to give it more room and vigor. The Akadama heavy mix will help the root system family and grow fine feeder roots to aid in the building of this tree. The leader had been left long and should still be grown out to make the transition of the first few inches from the trunk more in-line with the trunk. San Jose juniper bonsai stock. Height – 9 1/2 inch. Canopy width – 12 inch. Diameter – 1 1/4 inch. Flare at soil level – 1 3/4 inch. Features – This is a nice field grown San Jose juniper. I have been cutting back the bigger branches and creating new smaller branches from the green shoots that are growing closer to the trunk. This is a game of patience. As you can see from the pictures, the tree has very nice taper. The tree has nice movement and a wonderful flare at the soil level. The base still has some large branches. If the tree pushes growth towards the trunk, I will jin the larger branches and and create new branches from the green shoots. The shoots are in good locations. Patience, patience, patience is the name of the game. This tree has been in this pot since last fall. It will have a reasonable price for the amount of time spent on the tree. You will have to use your imagination as to what the tree will look like in the future. I added 2 new pictures. They are similar to the ones I took earlier. It is hard to tell, but they are bright green at the tips and there starting to push growth. Once we have warmer weather, they will fill in much more rapidly.
