7 Olive Bonsai Tree (Olea Europaea) Seeds, Mini Olive Tree, Olive Bonsai Seeds. 7 Olive Bonsai tree (Olea Europaea) Seeds, Bonsai Mini Olive Tree, Olive Bonsai Fresh Exotic Tree Seeds. INCREDIBLY EASY TO GERMINATE – ALONG WITH. Olive Tree Bonsai (Olea Europaea). THESE ARE THE EASIEST EXOTIC BONSAI TREE YOU WILL EVER GROW! The Olive (Olea europaea) is a small evergreen tree that grows best in a Mediterranean climate. Spain, Italy, Greece, and other Mediterranean countries are major producers, but olives are also cultivated outside the Mediterranean region in regions with an appropriate climate. The olive fruit has a skin, a fleshy pulp, and a stony kernel. As the fruit matures, it turns from green to black. The wild olive is of greater interest for Bonsai as these develop tiny leaves. In many cases these possess much appreciated features like the presence of jin, shari and bark that indicate a high age and survival in hostile conditions. The Olive as bonsai tree is easy to care for and very strong so it is a suitable choice for use as bonsai. Crack the end of each olive seed with a pair of bolt cutters or nail clippers. Compress the bolt cutters into the tip of the seed until the endocarp, or pit, begins to crack, but do not cut all the way through. Place the cracked olive seeds in a bowl of warm water. Soak the seeds overnight to hydrate the embryo and prompt germination. Drain the seeds on a sheet of paper for a few minutes before sowing them. Sow the olive seeds in individual 4-inch plastic pots filled with a moist mixture of half washed sand and half seed compost. Sow them at a depth of 1/4 inch. Gently firm the growing mix. Place the pots near a bright, sunny window in an unheated room where temperatures stay around 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep the seeds under cool conditions for four weeks. Moisten the growing mixture whenever it feels dry below the surface. Move the pots outdoors. Place the pots under light shade. Provide shelter from strong winds, since they will dry out the growing mixture. Watch for germination in approximately one to two months; however, don’t be discouraged if it takes significantly longer for the sprouts to emerge. Continue to grow the olive seedlings under light shade for their first summer. Transplant the olive seedlings into 8-inch nursery containers filled with a mix of half loam and half washed sand once they grow to 3 inches in height. Acclimate the olives to full sun exposure over the course of one week. Specific Bonsai care guidelines for the Olive. Position: Place the Olive bonsai outside and at a sunny spot, this also helps to reduce the size of the leaves. Must be protected during the winter if temperatures get too low. Watering: Do not overwater. Feeding: Feed abundant, with a normal fertilizer monthly from spring to mid autumn. Pruning: Strong pruning is recommended in late winter. The olive will respond with vigorous growth in the following spring. For maintenance pruning, cut back to 2-3 pairs of leaves, and in very vigorous (and healthy) specimens you can use defoliation. Repotting: Repot in spring before the buds begin to swell, every three or four years. Preferably use a soil mix with good drainage. We aim to provide our customers with the highest quality product and service. As with all seeds 100% germination success should not be expected although we select varieties known for their relatively higher success rates. Every effort is taken to ensure the quality of our seeds. Germination is affected by such factors as temperature, moisture content, light intensity and contamination of planting media. Although we do everything possible to get seeds to you in the best possible condition these factors are totally outside of our control and once you receive the seeds its over to you. Consequently, we can take no responsibility for the suitability to your local conditions of any variety offered, the indicative cultivation advice provided or ultimately the varieties performance. Olives, known as the peace tree, look great, are easy to care for and are very hardy. Olea europaea, is a species of a small evergreen tree in the family oleaceae, native to the coastal areas of the eastern mediterranean basin. It is short and squat with silvery green oblong shaped leaves and the trunk is typically gnarled and twisted. It is very hardy: drought-, disease- and fire-resistant. Its root system is robust and capable of regenerating the tree even if the above-ground structure is destroyed. Olive trees grow in any light with good drainage. They like warm weather, but can withstand temperatures to ? 10 °c (14 °f). The older an olive tree is, the broader and more gnarled its trunk appears. Many olive trees in the groves around the mediterranean are said to be hundreds of years old, while an age of 2,000 years is claimed for a number of individual trees; in some cases, this has been scientifically verified. Mission olive trees originated on the california missions, though there is some disagreement over when the trees first appeared in california. Some say they were introduced in 1769 when seeds brought from mexico were planted. Others site the date 1785 when trees were brought in to make olive oil. Check out my other items!
