This is my other Quince tree for Bonsai. I have been growing this tree for more than 8 years. This is a great Bonsai tree. Tree has a lot of flowers and ready to bloom (red flower). Chojubai Bonsai – Dwarf variety of Japanese Quince. This tree is about 35 years old. In a 7″x5.25″x2.25 old blue oval bonsai pot with excellent patina (Japanese, I believe). The tree stands only 7.5″ tall from the soil with approximately 3.75″ exposed root trunk base. Its fairly old and well established. Lots of character, with bark showing its age. It is presently sporting quite a few flower buds waiting to open, and will soon be blooming. It will continue to flower all Winter and then periodically throughout the growing season. Chinese flowering quince, known as Karin in Japan, is a species of fruit tree native to China. The species is known for pink flowers in late spring and red to yellow fall color. The bark is the star of the show with flaky, sycamore-like bark exfoliating into an attractive patchwork of mottled gray, green and brown. Fruit is edible and may be used in jams and syrups. Chojubai Dwarf Japanese Flowering Quince Bonsai. It stands only 6 tall from the soil with a. 5″ trunk and 1.75″ base. Its tough to get good, proportional photos, and the photos make the tree look out of proportion. Its much better in person. Probably around 14 years old. Flowering now, and covered in buds. This is a true dwarf Japanese quince, not some box store cheapo. A genuine chojubai with small leaves and flowers, tight internode spacing and contorted growth. This is a dwarf japanese quince. These are rare, and are not like the ones commonly found in big box stores and landscape nurseries. This is a true dwarf variety that grows compact, with tiny leaves, corky bark and little red flowers. Its in a 4 pot now. Excellent tree with well developed branching. The bark will continue to get rough and flaky. It is dormant now and just starting to put out bright red flowers, typical to this time of year. It is well on its way to being a beautiful bonsai. This tree looks good in the photos but is way better than the photos depict. 9 years old since taken as a cutting.
