Huge Beautiful 60 Year Old Bonsai Mission Olive Tree Large Rootball Trunk

Huge Beautiful 60 Year Old Bonsai Mission Olive Tree Large Rootball Trunk

THIS IS A HUGE MISSION OLIVE TREE Olea Europaea WITH A GREAT STYLE. IT MEASURES 36″ TALL OVERALL WITH A LARGE ROOTBALL/TRUNK STRUCTURE THAT MEASURES NEARLY 12″ ACROSS. THE BRANCH SPREAD IS NICE WITH LOTS OF BEAUTIFUL NEW GROWTH. THERE IS THE POTENTIAL TO DO MORE CARVING ON THE AMAZING STRUCTURE. THIS WAS TRIMMED DOWN FROM A LARGE TREE SIZE SOME TIME AGO. COLLECTED AND PRUNED LAST YEAR, THIS IS DOING WELL AND PUTTING OUT LOTS OF NICE NEW GROWTH AS SHOWN. THE MAIN TREE WAS ORIGINALLY PLANTED IN THE 1920s. THIS SECTION IS LIKELY ABOUT 60 YEARS OLD. THIS HAS SOME GOOD ROOTS SO I RECENTLY RESET IT IN THE SHALLOWER PLASTIC STARTER TRAY TO HELP SUPPORT THE CANOPY AND ENCOURAGE MORE ROOT DEVELOPMENT. THESE ARE VERY HARDY AND ONCE STABILIZED LIKE THIS, THEY BURST WITH VIBRANT NEW GROWTH AS SHOWN. AS MORE ROOTS DEVELOP LOWER ON THE ROOTBALL, IT CAN BE SET IN A SHALLOWER TRAY TO REVEAL MORE OF THE AWESOME TRUNK STRUCTURE. THE MISSION CULTIVAR TENDS TO HAVE RELATIVELY SMALL LEAVES WHICH MAKE THEM IDEAL FOR BONSAI. THIS HAS DISTINCT OLD GROWTH STRUCTURE, WITH TIME AND CARE THIS COULD BECOME A SHOWPIECE BONSAI. OLIVE TREES, OFTEN KNOWN AS THE PEACE TREE LOOK GREAT, ARE EASY TO CARE FOR AND ARE VERY HARDY. Olea europaea, is a species of a small evergreen tree in the family Oleaceae, native to the coastal areas of the eastern Mediterranean Basin. It is short and squat with silvery green oblong shaped leaves and the trunk is typically gnarled and twisted. It is very hardy: drought-, disease- and fire-resistant. Its root system is robust and capable of regenerating the tree even if the above-ground structure is destroyed. Olive trees grow in any light with good drainage. They like warm weather, but can withstand temperatures to 10 °C (14 °F). The older an olive tree is, the broader and more gnarled its trunk appears. Many olive trees in the groves around the Mediterranean are said to be hundreds of years old, while an age of 2,000 years is claimed for a number of individual trees; in some cases, this has been scientifically verified. Mission olive trees originated on the California Missions, though there is some disagreement over when the trees first appeared in California. Some say they were introduced in 1769 when seeds brought from Mexico were planted. Others site the date 1785 when trees were brought in to make olive oil. Check out my other items!
