BONSAI TREE BIG OLD INFORMAL UPRIGHT BOXWOOD in OLD TOKONAME POT. Nebari (Root Spread): Tree has several exposed Roots measuring 8. Height: Tree height from the soil line to the top of the apex is 18. Trunk Diameter: The trunk Dia, is approximately 3.5 inches. Canopy: The triangular canopy spreads 22 inches across. I think that I shall never see a poem lovely as a tree. Many of the trees I sell are still a work in progress, but this Old Boxwood that is well disguised as an old Oak tree is a finished tree that is now show ready. The tree represents some of the best material I have to offer. I have enjoyed watching this tree grow and mature into the fine bonsai specimen that you see today. Most of the masterpiece bonsai trees that I own such as this Boxwood were started by the original first generation Japanese American bonsai masters that I have studied under here in the west coast. This tree in particular, has been worked several times, over the past years by experience bonsai masters to bring to fruition. By nature, Informal upright trees give an impression of enduring power and with the grandeur of the boxwood, the trees size and composition add to an already impressive bonsai. There is a vestige of survival and time in this tree that the viewer can admire for hours at a time. The resilient ability of the boxwood is one of the many reasons why I love this plant, but as previously mentioned it has taken many years for this tree to get to its present size and shape. Because of the slow growth rate in the trunk, branch, and foliage area this tree has been designed and redesigned numerous times throughout its life. On that note, I find that the branch structure of this tree works well with this mature bonsai. Along with the thick branches, the massive trunk adds a realistic harmony to this venerable giant. Complementing the impressive trunk as well as the entire composition is an old rectangular Japanese Tokoname ceramic bonsai pot #12 (14×11x4.5). This old pot comes from a set. Although most of the quality Japanese pottery bears an incision or mark made by the artist or craftsman, a few makers will only add a chop mark to the largest pot of the set. In Japan this pot is known as a “non-kamajirushi, ” which means non-marked. The old classic pot is also inundated with a strong patina that is a testament to the pots old age. S will be at a higher cost. On a side note. Ive noticed that not too many sellers talk or write about things that should be done after you receive your tree so I will give you my two cents worth. When you receive your tree unpack it carefully. Cut the tape and plastic wrap from the pot and the branches if applicable. Secondly give the tree a good watering and then put the tree in a partially shaded spot for a few days to allow it to adjust.
