60-yr. Old, FAT-trunk, Broom-Style, Rescue Japanese Boxwood LIVE BONSAI TREE

36-year old, fat trunk, broom-style, Japanese Boxwood rescue bonsai tree with great history, planted in unglazed, brown/purple Japanese Tokanomo ceramic pot. This bonsai tree was initially a full-size, approximately 25-year old Japanese Boxwood tree growing alongside the 880 freeway in the San Francisco Bay Area. It was crushed down and broken off to just an 8-inch stump (no branches) when the freeway collapsed during the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake (a HUGE 7.1 on the Richter scale) that rocked the bay area and caused extensive damages, tragically injuring and killing hundreds of people. I found this tree the following year after they removed all the crushed cars and freeway rubble, at which point I dug it up and rescued the tree. I’ve trained it as a bonsai during the 33-years that have passed since that earthquake. During that time, the tree grew a beautiful new canopy, with fantastic branch ramification, all on top of that fat now 60-year old trunk, making it a stunning, show-ready, exhibition quality bonsai tree. Japanese Boxwoods are cold-hardy, evergreen trees, with beautiful small scale leaves and bark on the trunk, branches and radial roots. This bonsai tree is an incredibly easy species to grow, as it will tolerate much abuse making this the perfect bonsai even for a BEGINNER. It is an exhibition-ready specimen tree with a unique history that will make a fantastic addition to your collection. SKILL LEVEL: BEGINNER BASIC to ADVANCED. Bi-weekly watering, with liquid household fertilizer, added 1x per month. Give it a basic scissor pruning in spring and fall. Re-pot into fresh bonsai soil once every 3-5 years, cutting off of the root tips as you repot. Place it OUTDOORS, in partial or full sun, and it will thrive for decades to come. This tree has very nice potential. Well proportioned, surface roots have been manipulated to create a good classic arrangement. Strong tapered trunk with good ramification. Its planted in a round Japanese unglazed cream color drum style pot, that measures 5 in diameter and is 2 3/16 tall from the pots lip to the base of its feet. Its a new pot still has remnants of its sticker Fuji. I have tended this tree from its beginnings, as a cutting from its parent tree.
