This Pot is made by Okatani Zeshin. He is known as the most famous carved pot maker to have lived. His pots are sought After by collectors all over the world. Small carved wooden’root stand’ intended for indoor display of bonsai trees. This is a small stand, suitable for shohin sized trees, or possibly accent plantings. It would also be suitable for displaying ornamental wire bonsai trees, or other ornaments. The stand is carved from oak burr (burl) wood, finished in clear oil. Height is 45mm, diameter of the roughly-rounded top is 130mm. The wood naturally has a fairly coarse texture, with natural cracks, colour variation, small bark inclusions and so on, giving a rustic appearance. The top is sanded smooth. The finish is matt on the legs, satin on the top. I have included lots of pictures so you can see all the details. This piece was made by Arima Shoun. I don’t know much about the potter, I don’t see his work around much at all. It’s a great handmade pot with some nice carving work detail on the outside. Looks like he carved the figures out of clay and pressed them on to the pot prior to firing. Unique, interesting and a bit rustic. Stand(s) not included. This pot was made by Tani Ranzan. He’s a modern day potter (older gentleman) that makes fine carved pots that are very unique and interesting. Please note that quite a few of his pots have some firing splits in the body. Please see all pictures closely. This is common due to the clay that he uses and his firing process. This piece is the largest I’ve seen by him to date. Usually they are half the size and sometimes smaller. It’s got a great frog that extends out of one side the carving really is unbelievable. He makes great work and as you can see, it’s very intricate and thoughtful. I received one as a gift about 3 years ago and have it sitting on a shelf indefinitely. Very very cool stuff. These can be placed in your garden outside all year long if you desire. The wheel does turn, its attached with a simple piece of wire.
