Large Pre Bonsai Style Yamadori OLIVE TREE Olea Europaea'Mission' 38 Tall

THIS IS A NICE YAMADORI (COLLECTED) MISSION OLIVE TREE Olea Europaea WITH A GREAT STRUCTURE AND LOTS OF POTENTIAL. IT MEASURES 38 TALL OVERALL WITH A LARGE TRUNK STRUCTURE AND STRONG BRANCHING. THIS WAS TRIMMED DOWN FROM A LARGE COLLECTED SIZE LAST YEAR. I PRUNED IT BACK AND IT IS NOW DOING WELL, PUTTING OUT LOTS OF NICE NEW GROWTH AS SHOWN. FROM A GROVE THAT WAS ORIGINALLY PLANTED IN THE 1920s, THIS TREE IS LIKELY ABOUT 40 YEARS OLD. I SET IT IN THE PLASTIC STARTER POT TO HELP ENCOURAGE MORE ROOT AND CANOPY DEVELOPMENT. THESE ARE VERY HARDY AND ONCE STABILIZED LIKE THIS, THEY BURST WITH VIBRANT NEW GROWTH AS SHOWN. IT CAN PROBABLY BE SET IN A SHALLOWER TRAY SOON TO ACCENTUATE THE BEAUTY OF THE TREE AND AWESOME TRUNK STRUCTURE. I LEFT SOME GNARLY BRANCHES AND DEADWOOD AT THE TOP WHICH CAN BE CARVED TO ENHANCE THE STYLE. THE MISSON CULTIVAR TENDS TO HAVE RELATIVELY SMALL LEAVES WHICH MAKE THEM IDEAL FOR BONSAI. THIS HAS DISTINCT OLD GROWTH STRUCTURE, WITH TIME AND CARE THIS COULD BECOME A SHOWPIECE BONSAI. OLIVE TREES, OFTEN KNOWN AS THE PEACE TREE LOOK GREAT, ARE EASY TO CARE FOR AND ARE VERY HARDY. Olea europaea, is a species of a small evergreen tree in the family Oleaceae, native to the coastal areas of the eastern Mediterranean Basin. It is short and squat with silvery green oblong shaped leaves and the trunk is typically gnarled and twisted. It is very hardy: drought-, disease- and fire-resistant. Its root system is robust and capable of regenerating the tree even if the above-ground structure is destroyed. Olive trees grow in any light with good drainage. They like warm weather, but can withstand temperatures to 10 °C (14 °F). The older an olive tree is, the broader and more gnarled its trunk appears. Many olive trees in the groves around the Mediterranean are said to be hundreds of years old, while an age of 2,000 years is claimed for a number of individual trees; in some cases, this has been scientifically verified. Mission olive trees originated on the California Missions, though there is some disagreement over when the trees first appeared in California. Some say they were introduced in 1769 when seeds brought from Mexico were planted. Others site the date 1785 when trees were brought in to make olive oil.
