I took this massive unique, excellent movement, cutting from a very old mature wisteria grove earlier this spring (2.5 months ago). All cut ends were treated with’Tree Wound’ sealing compound to limit dead loss. The mother plant this came from blooms every spring with huge lavender/purple blossoms. The width of this material is 4′ from branch to branch at widest portion. The main trunk is 4″-5″ thick where it travels up vertically. The trunk also displays an eye catching wound that has healed many many years ago. The top branch end is 1.5 thick. The lower branch end is 2 thick exactly. There are buds all over the tree right now, even at the very ends of both the branches. There is a lot of possibility with this bonsai material as the trunk is well rooted and very long under the soil. It can be re-planted to be an impressive cascade specimen among many other styling options. It is planted in a cut down 55 gallon drum training pot with heavy rope handles for lifting. The plant with plastic drum and soil weigh about 60-70lbs. This is very impressive bonsai material with lots of potential. I have many other wisteria material as well. The Olives from the Garden of Gethsemane are actually still alive today. This tree in particular is a 100 year old Olive (olea europaea) tree that is gorgeous and in excellent condition. While creating this piece we decided to make the dramatic thick old trunk the center point of the composition. This Olive was found growing in an old Southern California community of Olive groves (Santa Clarita). It may sound shocking, but in some farming areas of Southern and Central California where a small olive grove is no longer profitable, many of these old venerable trees are being chopped down and used for firewood. This tree was collected many years ago and after being collected it was allowed to recuperate and grow out for a few years. The tree was then styled and re-worked several times over to bring it to its present shape. E believe that this tree would look great in the front entrance of a home or as the centerpiece of a backyard collection. The tree actually has several good fronts, but we decided to use the side that showcased the thickest portion of the trunk. Complementing the old trunk as well as the entire composition is a fine and big Yixing ceramic bonsai pot (24x 19x 7).
