This tree in particular is a very old Olive (olea europaea) tree that is gorgeous and in excellent condition. While creating this piece we decided to make the dramatic nebari (root flare) the center point of the composition. Nevertheless, I find that the branch structure of this tree works well in this mature bonsai. Along with the proper spacing of the branches, the tiny leaves add a realistic harmony to this small giant. The only drawback with owning an olive is that the tree is a very slow grower. The reason this tree shows good age in the trunk area as well as the canopy is because it is old, there are no tricks around showing an old gnarled trunk on an olive! Adding to the synergy of the powerful trunk as well as the entire composition is an oval Japanese production Tokoname ceramic Bonsai pot that is also old (16.5×14x4.5). On a side note. Ive noticed that not too many sellers talk or write about things that should be done after you receive your tree so I will give you my two cents worth. When you receive your tree unpack it carefully. Cut the tape and plastic wrap from the pot and the branches if applicable. Secondly give the tree a good watering and then put the tree in a partially shaded spot for a few days to allow it to adjust.
