Try as I might, I just could not capture the richness of the glaze on this pot, it is similar to fine Chinese Jun ware glaze but greener, the first two images are the closest. I was really torn about whether to keep this one, so was the person I bought it from! But, I have decided not to collect bonsai pots, so out it goes. Patina and lime scale from use. No cracks, chips or other damage. Signed by the artist. 3 1/2″ by 4 3/4″ by 1 1/4. Heian Kozan was one of the most highly regarded bonsai potters and highly collected bonsai pot artist, his pots are in high demand and are becoming more difficult to come by especially outside of Japan. Shohin rectangle by one of the top three Japanese bonsai potters of the 20th century, Heian Kouzan. A highly sought-after pre-war white clay example with the ruri-y lapis lazuli glaze he is best known for. Kouzan, whose real name was Koike Kazuo, was born in Seto in 1905 and passed in 1990. He is often referred to as kamisori Kouzan or the razor since his lines are so clean and precise. Despite being handmade there is absolutely no distortion or warpage. A true master potter, but also one with a profound understanding of bonsai and the relationship between tree and pot. Used but in perfect condition. 4.5 x 2.9 x 0.88 inches. This pot was made by the deceased Heian kosen. A prolific Kyoto based potter. He made a small amount of Suibans and they are Glazed very nicely. They do have some issues; warping and firing cracks but no damage by man (drops-cracks or chips). Sort of rare piece by the man. Please see the pics closely. This is a stunning Pot Made By the man of Japanese bonsai pots, Heian Tofukuji. The only person whose ever had a book written just about his bonsai pots works and his career. I’ve owned this pot for over 10 years and still love it but wonder if someone else out there loves it as much or more than I do. I got it from the green club in Ueno park, outside of Tokyo during the kokufu ten show held each year for over 90 years. It’s considered a pear skin style pot by the clay body that was used and the pot size is what really makes this desirable…. Many in the world love Shohin Size trees and their pots but now a trend has gone to the next size up from Shohin, just slightly larger trees and pots. The size and shape and build of this pot make it really desirable around the world. Please understand that this pot is in excellent condition but it’s likely 50-80 years old may have some super small minuscule nicks here and there. This is a great pot That could easily be used in kokufu. Any questions about this pot please ask me. I understand it’s worth a lot. Stand(s) not included. This is a stunning Pot Made By the man of Japanese bonsai pots, Heian Tofukuji. The only person whose ever had a book written just about his bonsai pots works and his career. I’ve owned this pot for over 10 years and still love it but wonder if someone else out there loves it as much or more than I do. I got it from the green club in Ueno park, outside of Tokyo during the kokufu ten show held each year for over 90 years. This pot shows some great patina on it and a very unique design and build. It’s also a former Tagaki collection piece. He was once the largest collector of Japanese pots and old Chinese pots anywhere in the world. It always adds some provenance and value. Please note this pot has some small chips and also a bit wonky. This is early days tofukiji, wood fired kilns, and things like this happened. Truly an exceptional piece. Please understand that this pot is in excellent condition but it’s likely 50-80 years old may have some super small minuscule nicks here and there. This is a %100 genuine (a COA can be requested if desired) Heian Tofukiji Sr. The only japanese potter in which an entire book was dedicated just to his great works. I’m a huge collector of his works. They are s precious and beautiful. This exceptional piece has a very unique pattern to the clay. And has a kowatari style drain hole (very large indicative of the chinese kowatari pots era). It does had a chip under one foot that barely visible while the pot is standing naturally. The pot is about 50-80 years old as he died in 1970. There are some extremely small and minimal chips along the rim as well. Common with such an old piece that was well used. I’ve seen and probably owned more Tofukuji pots than anyone outside Japan and I’ve only seen one with the same size drain hole. And it was glazed and cost over 1,000,000 jpy. (Kokufu 2015 I saw it).
