BONSAI TREE KENJI MIYATA TANUKI (PHOENIX GRAFT) SOKAN KISHU SHIMPAKU. Katade mochi` (One handed). Height: The height of the tree from the soil line to the top of the apex is 12.5. Trunk Diameter: The trunk Dia, with deadwood is approximately 2. Canopy: 15 across both trees. Yixing Clay Pot: 9×5. A Tanuki bonsai tree can best be described as combining the living and the dead to create a vision of beauty. American bonsai artist Dan Robinson coined the memorable phrase Phoenix Graft, which is based on a legend about a bird that flew into the sun, died and was reborn. In that same spirit, we decided to combine a magnificent piece of California juniper driftwood (natures art) with one of Kenji Miyatas beautiful Kishu Shimapku junipers, to create an object of great beauty. I dont think that I have ever seen a Kenji Miyata tanuki and probably never will again. Before Kenji and his wonderful wife Toyoko moved from Visilia, California I had one last chance to acquire a tree from the great master and this is the last tree that I have from his collection. It is a Kishu Shimpaku Sokan style juniper that was started by Kenji many years ago. Kenji Miyata trees are beautiful on their own, but we decided to do something that has probably never been done before and add a magnificent piece of old California juniper deadwood to Kenjis composition. The Kishu Shimpaku portion of the tree has an. Amazing emerald green condensed scale foliage. And is soft to the touch. The layered branching habit of this plant gives the subtle appearance of soft undulations around the canopy and would serve nicely in a small Zen garden. Adding to the synergy of the beautiful deadwood and tree is a round Yixing ceramic bonsai pot (9×5) with three lovely feet shaped like clouds. BONSAI TREE CHUHIN KISHU SHIMPAKU JUNIPER from the KENJI MIYATA COLLECTION. Height: The height of the tree from the soil line to the top of the apex is 10. Trunk Diameter: The trunk Dia, is approximately 1.5 inches. Chinese Contemporary Lotus Flower Ceramic Pot: The unglazed ceramic container measure 9.5x 8×4. Many of the trees that we sell are still a work in progress, but this old Kishu (Shimpaku) Juniper is an almost completed tree that will be show ready soon. It has never been shown anywhere else until today. The tree represents some of the best material that we have to offer. Nevertheless, many of the masterpiece bonsai trees that we eventually sell were started by the original first generation Japanese bonsai masters that Ive studied under here in the west coast. This tree in particular was started and has been worked on several times over the past years by bonsai masters Kenji Miyata and myself to bring to fruition. Miyata-san first styled the tree about ten years ago, but only the shaping of the sinuous trunk and development of the primary branches were done. After we took possession of the tree we decided to stay as close as possible to what Mr. Miyata envisioned when he did his initial design. One of the most important factors in creating a high quality bonsai is that you must first start with a tree that has great potential. Secondly, the person who does the initial designing the tree must know what they are doing, because Masterpiece bonsai trees do not happen by accident. The proportions on this Kishu juniper are very attractive; in fact, I would say that they are ideal! Overall, the composition of this small Kishu juniper conveys a tree that has aged gracefully. The subtle movement of the trunk and its branches gives one the impression of a tree that has spent all of its life on an open prairie. The tree has a pleasing composition that came to fruition through much thought, planning, but most importantly through time. Adding to the beauty of the beautiful tree is a Lotus Flower shaped Yixing ceramic Bonsai pot (9.5×8x4). KENJI MIYATA LITERATI JAPANESE. Height: The height of the tree from the soil line to the top of the apex is 15. Trunk Diameter: The trunk Dia, is approximately 1. Nebari (Root spread): The root spread is generous 3. A literati style tree is something different from other bonsai trees that typically represent a tree style in nature. Literati is more complex, symbolic, and very strong in elegant movement as well as aesthetically pleasing. There is little doubt that it is one of the most fascinating of all styles and also one of the hardest to successfully create. Hanging in the realm between nature and vision, realism and impressionism, dream and reality, literati captures our imagination and in doing so, encompasses all that bonsai is and was meant to be. Notes on the tree. This Japanese Juniper (Byakushin), which is trained in the Bunjin (Literati) style, was created by Japanese Bonsai Master Kenji Miyata. When designing a bonsai one. Miyata-san has always excelled in is his ability to recognize the importance of negative space when choosing what branch to keep and which to remove. In the case of this tree, anything that was not absolutely crucial to the trees story was removed or jinned. The photographs of the tree show a bone white colored deadwood that creates a good contrast to the tan bark of the live trunk. Overall, the composition of this Nana juniper shows a tree that has weathered the tough times and has emerged as something more beautiful because of it. The old and seasoned trunk and its low hanging branches gives one the impression of a tree that has spent its entire life by the edge of a cliff. Working in concert with the beautiful rustic posture of the tree is an equally impressive round Yixing bonsai pot with cloud feet (7.5×4). Height: The height of the tree from the soil line to the top of the apex is 8. Trunk Diameter: The trunk Dia, is approximately 1.25. Nebari (Root spread): The root spread is generous 3. Chinese Contemporary (70s) Lotus Flower Ceramic Pot: The 40+ year old unglazed ceramic container measure 7.5×3. This Japanese Juniper (Nana), which is trained in a semi Cascading style (Han-Kengai) originates from Japan and was created by Bonsai Master Kenji Miyata. When designing a bonsai one of the things that Mr. Miyata always seems to accomplish is to tell a story with the tree that he is creating. A successful bonsai tree must be more than just a plant in a pot. The tree should always generate some kind of emotion for it to be a successful composition. In the case of creating this tree, Miyata-san stayed close to his strong yet traditional Japanese bonsai technique. Miyata-san has been quoted as saying that classic Japanese bonsai trees of the highest quality are triangular and have branches that flow fluidly. Ive noticed that not too many sellers talk or write about things that should be done after you receive your tree so I will give you my two cents worth. When you receive your tree unpack it carefully. Cut the tape and plastic wrap from the pot and the branches if applicable. Secondly give the tree a good watering and then put the tree in a partially shaded spot for a few days to allow it to adjust. Last tree from the Miyata-san. Height: The height of the tree from the soil line to the top of the apex is 13.5. Trunk Diameter: The trunk Dia, is approximately 2. Nebari (Root spread): The root spread is generous 5. Japanese Ceramic Pot: The dark brown unglazed ceramic container measure 11×8x4. This Prostrata Juniper, which is trained in an Informal Upright style, was created by Bonsai Master Kenji Miyata. In order to create this tree everything that was not necessary was removed. Despite this bonsai tree being a Kenji Miyata creation, the trees foliage was very over grown so some work needed to be done on the old canopy. When it comes to working with bonsai trees, one of the things that I absolutely love is when I get an opportunity to take an old completed bonsai that has been allowed to overgrow and bring it back to where it should be. This rustic Prostrata juniper (Juniperus Chinensis Prostrata) looks like a very old tree because it is. The actual age and history of the tree can be found in the thickness of the trunk as well as the aged round canopy, which is clearly the focal point of the tree. As previously mentioned the canopy and foliage have been recently cleaned and re-wired. Because this tree was restyled from a strong Hokidachi (broom) style to a more balanced looking tree many of the secondary and tertiary branches needed to be re-wired, but the primary branches being already set did not require wiring. What this means for its new owner is, this trees canopy will be a show ready very soon. The sinuous trunk is also very impressive due to the thickness and. Texture that is rarely found in a tree this small. Any consider the Prostrata juniper to be one of the easiest junipers to work with because of its resilient ability to handle many environments. Overall, the composition of this Juniper conveys a tree that has lived its entire life on an open prairie and it shows in its natural beauty. Short history of Kenji Miyata. Bonsai Master Kenji Miyata is from. In Toyohashi, a town in Aichi prefecture, Japan. BONSAI TREE SHOHIN TRIDENT MAPLE in PORCELAIN POT by KENJI MIYATA. Nebari (Root Spread): Tree has many exposed Roots measuring 2. Height: The height from the soil line to the top of the apex is 6. Canopy: The widest part of the branch spread measures 9. Trunk Diameter: The trunk Dia, is approximately 1 inch. This small leaf Shohin Trident Maple was created and styled by Bonsai Master Kenji Miyata of Japan. The small leaf Trident Maple. Is an outstanding tree that usually makes its appearance in winter shows when the tree is leafless and bare. Additionally, the tree is also well known for the spectacular colors the leaves display in early spring and autumn (fall), which are. Various shades of red, orange, and yellow in autumn. In truth, the tree can also display these same colors during the hottest part of summer if trained correctly. All that is required is for the leaves to be cut back completely in late July and the new growth that happens rather quickly is stunning. This outstanding tree also has all the right ingredients in becoming a very impressive tree soon. A few of the trees attributes are the appearance of good nebari (roots) that so solidly supports the trunk along with. Well weathered thick shohin trunk that many collectors covet. The deciduous tree also has small and beautiful tri-lobed leaves. Accompanying the excellent nebari, small leaves, and light grey/orange. Classic yet simple arrangement of branches that Miyata-san did via the use of string so no wire marks will be found on the tree or branches. Complementing the impressive Shohin trunk as well as the entire composition is a beautiful light green porcelain bonsai pot (5.5×5x2). Short history of Kenji Miyata. BONSAI TREE OLD FOEMINA JUNIPER in TOKONAME POT from KENJI MIYATA COLLECTION

JUNIPER in TOKONAME POT. Height: The height of the tree from the soil line to the top of the apex is 14.5. Trunk Diameter: The trunk Dia, is approximately 2 inchs. Nebari (Root spread): The root spread is generous, but covered by moss. Imagine and old majestic Sequoia (tree) in the midst of nature. When designing a bonsai one of the things I always try to accomplish is to tell a story with the tree that I’m creating. A successful bonsai tree must be more than just a plant in a pot. The tree should always generate some kind of emotion for it to be a successful composition. In short, bonsai should always be like a silent poem and a three dimensional painting which bring and adds peace to our lives. In the case of creating this tree the negative space was as important as to where we decided to place the branches. In order to create this tree everything that was not necessary was removed. When we first acquired this small, but old Foemina juniper from Kenji Miyata it was with the intent of adding it to a Foemina forest, but because of the short height and the tree looking good standing on its own we decided to make it a single Bonsai tree. Nevertheless, this foemina Juniper also has the perfect foliage and upright growth to be added to a small forest planting if desired. Along with the excellent taper that works its way up to the apex, this tree also has just the right amount of branches to make it appear as a very natural tree. Combined with its rustic appearance that this small old tree shows makes it a winning combination for any collector. Complementing the dramatic stature of this majestic little tree is an equally impressive and old Tokoname Bonsai pot (11×8.5×4). On a side note. After several days of adjustment your new bonsai can be reintroduced to bright sun. Good luck and if you have any questions feel free to fire off a message. JUNIPER (Nana) in FINE CLAY POT. Height: The height of the tree from the soil line to the top of the apex is 12. Trunk Diameter: The trunk Dia, is approximately 1.25. Nebari (Root spread): The root spread is generous 3.5. Yixing Ceramic Pot: The rich dark brown unglazed ceramic container measure 7.5×4. REDWOOD SLAB NOT INCLUDED! This Japanese Juniper (Nana), which is trained in the Bankan style originates from Japan and was started and created by Bonsai Master Kenji Miyata. Additional work and refinement on the tree was done by Bonsai Master Mauro Stemberger of Italy. When designing a bonsai one of the things that both Kenji Miyata and Mauro Stemberger always seems to accomplish is to tell a story with the tree that they are creating. In order to create this tree everything that was not necessary was removed. This is your opportunity to own a rare Kenji Miyata and Mauro Stemberger bonsai, two of the world’s foremost authorities on bonsai. Thank you and have a great day! On a side note.
