Bonsai Tree Kingsville Boxwood Literati, 14 Years Old, Blue Glazed Chinese Pot

This tree stands 9 7/8 tall, from the bottom of the pots feet, to the trees top. This tree was created after the original trees top was air layered off leaving the lower branch in tact. This first or lower branch was then wired up to form the new trunk and canopy. The surface roots are, of course the original trees. The cut just below the new trunk is healing in nicely and will close in due time. This is a technique I have applied to trees that have a substantial lower branch and a higher canopy. The division of one not so remarkable tree, into two better quality trees is always a rewarding challenge. It’s planted in a blue glazed Japanese pot with fluted corners and measures 4 1/4 square and is 2 3/8 tall from the pots lip to the base of its 3 feet. I have tended the original tree from its beginnings, as a cutting from its parent tree. THIS LISTING IS FOR THE EXACT ITEM PICTURED. Trunk Diameter: The trunk Dia at. Tree is approximately 1.75. Height: Tree height from the soil line to the top of the apex is 11. Canopy: The canopy spread is 11 across. This rare Cork Bark Jade. Is a mutated “Cork” variety of Jade that is seldom found. The rare plant first appeared in a Florida nursery in the early 1960s. At first it was thought to have some sort of fungal disease. A heavy application of pesticide nearly eradicated the problem by killing most of the plants. Fortunately, one survived before the nursery went out of business and the plant made its way to the West Coast. This tree was grown here in Southern California by a local artist who accidentally discovered this mutation many years ago and has been growing them ever since. The Cork on the plant usually appears after the plant has reached the ages of 5-8 years old. As seen in the photographs, this trees Cork appearance is well established and will become even more dramatic as it matures. Along with being one of the most resilient of succulents and having the appearance of a miniature jade plant, this Portulaca relative is very well suited for bonsai and the Cork Bark is like icing on the cake with its added attraction of the fissured, corky bark. Bright light and lean conditions (Little water) seem to promote the best fissured bark but also considerable patience. The specimen in the final photograph is a tree that came from the very same plant this tree came from. The tree belongs to my friend Frank Yee who has been training the tree for more than 40 years now and is something to aspire to. As with traditional bonsai, these specimens can become horticultural heirlooms that can be passed down from generation to generation. Complementing the thick corky trunk as well as the entire composition is a fine round’Yixing’ ceramic bonsai pot (7.5x 4). On a side note. Ive noticed that not too many sellers talk or write about things that should be done after you receive your tree so I will give you my two cents worth. When you receive your tree unpack it carefully. Cut the tape and plastic wrap from the pot and the branches if applicable. Secondly give the tree a good watering and then put the tree in a partially shaded spot for a few days to allow it to adjust. After several days of adjustment your new bonsai can be reintroduced to bright sun. Good luck and if you have any questions feel free to fire off a message. BONSAI TREE LITERATI (BUNJIN) STYLE PROSTRATA JUNIPER in DRUM POT

BONSAI TREE LITERATI (BUNJIN) STYLE PROSTRATA JUNIPER in DRUM POT. Nebari (Root Spread): Tree show many exposed roots (6 wide) that are surrounded by moss. Height: The height of the tree from the soil line to the top of the apex is 27. Trunk Diameter: The trunk Dia, is approximately 1.75. Canopy: 18 at widest area. A literati style tree is something different from other bonsai trees that typically represent a tree style in nature. Literati is more complex, symbolic, and very strong in elegant movement as well as aesthetically pleasing. There is little doubt that it is one of the most fascinating of all styles and also one of the hardest to successfully create. Hanging in the realm between nature and vision, realism and impressionism, dream and reality, literati captures our imagination and in doing so, encompasses all that bonsai is and was meant to be. Notes on the tree. One thing that has always been emphasized and taught to me is that in bonsai what is not there is just as important as what is there (branches). In the case of this tree, anything that was not absolutely crucial to the trees story was removed or jinned. Another aspect of bonsai that is just as important as negative space comes in the form of Wabi Sabi. Abi-sabi is the Japanese art of finding beauty in the transience and imperfection of all things. The aesthetic is sometimes described as one of beauty that is imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete. In Japan, the concept is so deeply ingrained in Bonsai that its difficult to separate one from the other. Through Bonsai, we can learn to embrace the beauty of our imperfect lives. Overall, the composition of this Prostrata juniper (Juniperus Chinensis Prostrata) shows a tree that has weathered the tough times and has emerged as something more beautiful because of it. The old and seasoned thick trunk and its low hanging branches gives one the impression of a tree that has spent its entire life by the edge of a cliff. Working in concert with the beautiful rustic posture of the tree is an equally impressive Drum style Yixing ceramic bonsai pot (12×3). On a side note. Ive noticed that not too many sellers talk or write about things that should be done after you receive your tree so I will give you my two cents worth. When you receive your tree unpack it carefully. Cut the tape and plastic wrap from the pot and the branches if applicable.
