Trunk Diameter: The trunk Dia, is approximately 2 inches. Base: Big Fat base is 3.5 in Dia. The olive tree is surely the richest gift of Heaven. By nature, trees with fat trunks give an impression of maturity and with the timeless history of the Olive, this composition adds to an already impressive bonsai. The Olive tree has always been regarded as a symbol of life and peace. The tree is believed to live beyond 2000 years. The Olives from the Garden of Gethsemane are actually still alive today. There is a majestic beauty in this little tree that the viewer can admire for hours. The resilient ability of the Olive is one of the many reasons why I love this plant. The interesting thick trunk with a lot of seasoned character that collectors desire is definitely the focal point of the tree, but this bonsai also has many other attributes. I find that the developing branch structure of the canopy works well in this old little bonsai. Along with the proper spacing of the branches, the oval shaped leaves add a realistic harmony to this small giant. Complementing the impressive sumo like thick trunk as well as the entire composition is a fine oval glazed blue ceramic bonsai pot (8x 7x 2.5). On a side note. BONSAI TREE SHOHIN JAPANESE RED MAPLE with 2 TRUNK in FINE BLUE POT. We realize that the winter chill is still affecting many parts of the U. Shohin` Class (Palm size). Height: Tree height from the soil line to the top of the apex is 6. Canopy: The widest part of the trees branch spread is 6 wide. Trunk: The trunk Dia, is approximately 2 inches. Nebari: The exposed roots measure 3 across. Although many use the Japanese Red Maple as a landscape tree, creating an old Shohin size Maple for Bonsai is the highest artistic level one can reach for this beautiful tree. Along with its powerful trunk, this maple also shows a beautiful red small leaf in the spring time as well as a great fall color. It is hard to tell when this tree is at its finest. Many enjoy displaying these trees during the winter shows when the tree is leafless and bare, but I believe that the tree is most splendid in spring when covered with the deep red leaves that appear to be on fire. Adding to the beautiful foliage is the milky white masculine looking surface of the main trunk, which combined with the foliage and the dramatic exposed roots, adds to the grace and the total effect of this composition. Notwithstanding the fact that the beauty of the tree is breathtaking when covered with new foliage, the tree can still be impressive standing bare in the cold of winter. While training a Shohin Maple bonsai tree may be a bit more challenging than working on a Juniper, it by no means requires a sophisticated green thumb. The one tip I will share is to never water the foliage during the summer season as this will cause the tips to burn. Complementing this beautiful composition is an equally strong Japanese ceramic container with a beautiful glazed blue color. The tree has been growing in the rectangular bonsai pot for two years now. BONSAI TREE RARE INDOOR OR OUTDOOR CORK BARK JADE. Trunk Diameter: The trunk Dia at the base of the tree is approximately 2. Height: Tree height from the soil line to the top of the apex is 13. Nebari: The tree show an impressive root spread 5 across. Canopy: The canopy spread is 10 across. This rare Cork Bark Jade (Portulacaria afra) is a mutated “Cork” variety of Jade that is seldom found. The rare plant first appeared in a Florida nursery in the early 1960s. At first it was thought to have some sort of fungal disease. A heavy application of pesticide nearly eradicated the problem by killing most of the plants. Fortunately, one survived before the nursery went out of business and the plant made its way to the West Coast. This tree was grown here in Southern California by a local artist who accidentally discovered this mutation many years ago and has been growing them ever since. The Cork on the plant usually appears after the plant has reached the ages of 5-8 years old. As seen in the photographs, this trees Cork appearance is well established and will become even more dramatic as it matures. Along with being one of the most resilient of succulents and having the appearance of a miniature jade plant, this Portulaca relative is very well suited for bonsai and the Cork Bark is like icing on the cake with its added attraction of the fissured, corky bark. Bright light and lean conditions (Little water) seem to promote the best fissured bark but also considerable patience. The specimen in the final photograph is a tree that came from the very same plant this tree came from. The tree belongs to my friend Frank Yee who has been training the tree for more than 40 years now and is something to aspire to. As with traditional bonsai, these specimens can become horticultural heirlooms that can be passed down from generation to generation. Complementing the impressive Cork trunk as well as the entire composition is an unglazed rectangular ceramic bonsai pot (7.5×5.5x 2.5). On a side note. Although many use the Japanese Red Maple as a landscape tree, creating an old small size Maple for Bonsai is the highest artistic level one can reach for this beautiful tree. Along with its many small twigs, this maple also shows a beautiful red small leaf in the spring time as well as a great fall color. Often displayed in winter to show off its trunk and branch structure, I decided to present the tree to you now. Notwithstanding the fact that the beauty of the tree is breathtaking when covered with new foliage, the tree can still be impressive standing bare in the cold of winter. While training a Chuhin Maple bonsai tree may be a bit more challenging than working on a Juniper, it by no means requires a sophisticated green thumb. The one tip I will share is to never water the foliage during the summer season as this will cause the tips to burn. Complementing this beautiful composition is an equally impressive ceramic container with a beautiful blue tint glaze and a rustic earth tone shade that was made with an iron oxide. Im sure that many of you have heard of the Mikawa Japanese black pine, but what exactly does the word Mikawa mean? Mikawa, is actually a province in the Aichi Prefecture of Japan where Japanese Black Pines with very strong cork barked trunks grow. There are small areas within the Mikawa Regine, that grow strange offshoots of Black Pines and the Nishiki cork bark black pine is one of those rare offshoots. This outstanding little giant is actually a Nishiki cork bark pine that was grafted onto the base of a regular Mikawa Japanese Black Pine many years ago. F you like the pictures than I guarantee that you will love this bonsai tree. Because of its rarity and because it. Has all the right ingredients in becoming a future masterpiece this tree is a must have for any collection. A nice thick sinuous trunk, excellent branch placement, and a captivating cork bark that shows the trees age are just a few of attributes this bonsai provides. Nebari (Root Spread): The forest shows many exposed roots, but most are covered by moss. Trunk Diameter: The average trunk Dia, is approximately 1 thick. Canopy: The canopy of the entire forest measures 21 wide. Yixing Pot: The shallow Chinese-Contemporary ceramic container is from the Yixing Kiln (17X14X3.5). Autumn, the years last, Loveliest smile. Most of the trees I sell are still a work in progress, but this Japanese Red Maple Forrest is a finished bonsai that is now show ready. This bonsai represents some of the best material I have to offer. I have enjoyed watching this forest grow and mature into the fine bonsai specimen that you see today. Most of the masterpiece bonsai trees that I eventually sell were started by the original first generation Japanese American bonsai masters that Ive studied under here in the west coast. This tree in particular has been worked several times over the past years by experience bonsai masters to bring to fruition. The Japanese red maple is an outstanding tree that usually makes its appearance in winter shows when the tree is leafless and bare. Additionally, the tree is also well known for the spectacular colors the leaves display in early spring and autumn (fall), which is often a striking red in spring and a bronze/purple colored leaf in autumn. In truth, the tree can also display these same colors during the hottest part of summer if trained correctly. All that is required is for the leaves to be cut back completely in late July and the new growth that happens rather quickly is stunning. For a forest that is only 21 inches wide, this small giant shows a lot of seasoned character within the trees that only time can provide. Along with the outstanding composition the trees are also blessed with all the right ingredients to make this forest into a masterpiece if it isnt already. This is a Bonsai forest that can be cherished for many years and if you like the pictures than I guarantee that you will love the forest. Complementing the impressive spread of the Forest as well as the entire composition is a glazed blue shallow Yixing ceramic bonsai pot. In truth, the tree and pot work in concert to help show the landscape and breaking of color of the forest. A marriage made in heaven! Height: The height of the tree from the soil line to the top of the apex is 18. Trunk Diameter: The trunk Dia, is approximately 1.5 inches. Nabari & Base: The tree shows a strong base and roots 7. Canopy: 20 across both trees at its widest point. Height: The height of the tree from the soil line to the top of the apex is 14. Trunk Diameter: The trunk Dia, is approximately 1 inch. I think that I shall never see a poem as lovely as a tree! In Japan a genuine Soju style tree (Twin Trunk) requires that both trees come from the same root-ball as these two trees do. Soju style trees are normally done by design and at a very young age. The two trunks on this San Jose Juniper actually spilt at the base of the root system, but it was done many years ago by nature and not a bonsai artist. These two rustic small giants have all of the right ingredients necessary in becoming a masterpiece very soon. Although this bonsai tree was ideal for grafting the branches with Kishu Shimpaku foliage, it was decided not to graft the twin trunks in order to maintain its rustic and natural appearance. A few of the trees attributes are two very old and sinuous trunks, great taper, excellent branch placement, and outstanding Jin and Shari (Deadwood) that is seen throughout both trees. In my opinion if the proper care is done, this Bonsai should be show ready soon. Complementing the impressive curvy trunks as well as the entire composition is a. Rustic round ceramic bonsai pot that works in concert with the tree in conveying natures natural beauty (12x 5). The bonsai pot was made specifically for this tree by an up and coming ceramist to not only highlight the trees rustic appearance, but to also accommodate its beautiful twin trunk. The soil that was used on this tree is a mixture known as Boons Mix soil on the root system and a special Red Lava mix as top dressing. This collected redwood, which is also known as “Coastal Redwood” (Sequoia sempervirens), comes from a long line of ancient California Giants.
